Just had a gut feeling that somebody would be hurt in that Boston game, despite the blowout win. I sure hope Markstrom didn't injure his knee after being briefly pulled when he took a stick through his mask. If he came back out there and then got hurt, then the Canucks and Green deserve what they got.....should have just left Demko in the game.....now they have to play him every night.

I suppose the only positive is that they'll get a complete read on where Demko is at as a potential starting goalie.....still think it's only 50/50 they'll be able to get Markstrom signed.
It almost feels like it is 50/50 if they Want to sign Markstrom...

Next month should sway them either way.

Hopefully Demko plays well and stays healthy.

If he goes down or needs a rest, do we see Domingue or does Dipietro play? And is Dipietro next in line after Domingue?

Well perhaps this is a major turning point in Demko’s career. Maybe he takes this opportunity and runs with it? Makes JB rethink his goalie situation in the offseason. And at very least gives us options...

I hope we don’t see too much of Domingue and that Marky’s injury only holds him out a couple weeks. Chop this deal up to some further assurance. It’s not the right time to pull DiPietro up.

Would a long term Markstrom injury be a Benning get out of jail free card?
Every team has injuries....how would you like to play without Sidney Crosby for a long period of time as the Penguins had to do this season (and they still managed to stay in the playoffs). We have been extremely fortunate to have very few injuries to our top players during the season...except for the last few weeks. There is no doubt that Benning will use his traditional excuse trotted out every year...."if it wasn't for the injuries"...to try to save his job if they do not make the playoffs.

Maybe a money thing. Domingue not playing well for them. Costs them $1 mill in cash and cap space. McIntyre is on a 2 way deal. Remember they are retained on Simmonds and Hall. So, paying money for non roster players. Plus, they may at this point bring Schneider back up as they are paying him in full anyways. Season is over for them.

Probably the only reason they took the straight up swap.

NJ recalled Schneider last week as he had been doing a lot better in Binghampton after a brutal start there. Saves them some money having McIntyre as an AHL goalie instead of Domingue.

Benning was asked whether he thought Markstrom's injury would have any impact on contract discussions to bring him back. I thought he was pretty vague in answering this question.

Let's face it, if Demko backstops this team into the playoffs, then the reality is that Markstrom will be a lot more difficult to justify re-signing, particularly at the price point and term that he and his agent will be holding out for.

Demko might basically be auditioning for the starter's role next season.
