Jensen gets a nice feed from O'Reilly but shoots it well wide.

It's painful how much he and Shinkaruk are squeezing their sticks. Why is it always like this with our prospects??

Seems to be a common theme with him. Just can't bury his opportunities. He seems very much like a confidence player so I imagine the frustration has just snowballed.

I wonder if he is still recovering from hip surgery and that's throwing off his timing. Oh and thanks for the updates nuxfan!

You can tell Jensen is really trying to get that monkey off his back. Grenier threw the puck towards the net and Jensen tried his best to beat the defender to try to get a shot off or deflect it but he couldn't quite get his stick on it.

The Stars then get one on Markstrom. Derek Meech gets the goal. Sounds like it was a weird one,

Game over. 5-2 final!

That was a long time ago now. But we know that Kesler took ages to come good from a similar injury.

I think it could really just be in his head. He seems like a kid who loves the swagger. If he's not scoring then maybe he's really doubting himself.

Gaunce now has 4 goals and 6 points in his last 9 games. It's important to see him show improvement in the second half of his first pro season, hopefully Shinkaruk picks it up.

That late Texas goal was unfortunate. It'd be good eventually to see Markstrom right at the top of the AHL goalies table. (He's second right now in GAA and SAV%.)

sanguinetti is beasting it, what's the contract situation with him and biega

between the two of them the canucks shouldn't need to pick up any "depth" dmen

Both Biega and Sanguinetti are UFA's this year. Gotta lock these two up and keep them in the organization.

Some line changes helped get the team back on track. Line of Archibald - Acton - DeFazio dominated. Much better effort in this one

Liked

Archibald - strong both ways. Skating a ton better in this game and forced the play in all zones. Good on the back check and very strong along the boards. If you could get him playing like this on a consistent basis he could be a call up. Very good physical presence.

Acton - doesn't show it on the score sheet but was the best player in this game. Was outstanding per usual on the pk. Has looked much better 5 on 5 lately and this continued in this game. Provides the type of two way that can help people like DeFazio and Archibald when he is on his game.

Pedan - really a very good game. Was very steady and probably with Huskins got the most game time. First guy out on the pk and was excellent all game in that role. Used his long reach very effectively to break up plays at the blue line and laid out some very stiff checks on players trying to go wide. Maybe the best thing about Pedan is that he provides such a deterrence to players trying to jam the goalie. He comes in and players begin to back off. You want to keep any enthusiasm under control b/c you still get the feeling he can revert to very bad decision making

Gaunce - made a good play on his goal when he lifted a Texas players stick and whipped in a shot from the slot. Nice to see him get some power play time. His unit didn't actually move the puck around the zone much but did create scrambles that led to chances. Again strong on forecheck. Getting points which is important

Huskins - maybe the best d-man on the team at the moment. Forms good duo with Pedan. Can see his experience in the way he immediately backs up Pedan. Doing a good job of packing the puck out of his end.

Markstrom -some excellent saves and solid throughout. Last goal was fluke that bounce off the shoulder of a player tied up at the side of the net and then looped over Markstrom. The first was probably goal interference and should have been called off.

Sanguinetti - most of the offense seems to go thru Sanguinetti. Continually creates chances with his passing and shot. With Andersson solid in his end. These guys very much compliment one another and have been good over the last stretch. Think you can still hold out some hope for Andersson. It's often a long process with the Swedish defensemen.

Did Not Like

Ehrhardt - some horrible turnovers and had to be bailed out by Markstrom Player is not right. Long suit is his mobility and he showing little of that right now. Has never looked that good after suffering injury earlier in the year. Played with Negrin and surprisingly it was Negrin having to cover up for Ehrhardt. Negrin was decent in this game.

O'Reilly - has you pulling your hair out. Dumb blind back passes that are easily picked off. Bad turnovers that lead to odd man rushes. Soft cute plays hanging on to the puck rather moving to open team mates. Guy simply does not play honest hockey and tries to do things he doesn't have the skill to do. Biggest problem is that just as the team is getting into a groove playing a good system out comes O'Reilly who wants to slow things down (basically because he has no speed) and hog the puck. Played with Grenier (whose an adventure in his own right) and Jensen. Jensen worked hard and got some chances but right now you are going into black hole if O'Rielly and Grenier are your line mates. These guys get some PP points sometimes but do nothing 5 on 5.

Friesen - after a strong spell game has really weakened. Gets nothing done and is off pk. Put on the power play but that has only made the pp weaker for the first unit. Right now the harder he works the worse it gets.

Other points

Shinkaruk - effort is absolutely there but couldn't, at the moment, put the puck in the ocean from the Tsawwanssen Ferry dock. Often gets in too tight to the goalie and has no where to shoot puck. Needs to better read goal scoring chances around the net and not get standing still and checked. Got an assist but it was more or less a fluke. On the power play, he drove into traffic going over the blue line and puck got poked off his stick and bounced over to where Gaunce could get control and score.

Comets again missed chances by erratic shooting. Had several open chances breaking in off the wing and every time drove the puck high and wide of the net. Only player that consistently gets shot on net is Sanguinetti.

DeFazio got first star and while he was better than recently thought he was mostly benefiting from very good play of Archibald and Acton.

Sanguinetii called up? Come on down. Highly likely that he gets a shot this time with the recent success of other Utica call ups.

Shinkaruk sounds like he's going to be fine when he just realizes guys like him make the NHL at 21/22

He gets chances every game, no converting but still a good sign

Gaunce centering the 2nd PP unit and he actually wins his face off. I really like how this kid has been playing.

Gaunce doesn't often get PP time does he? I know he has a couple of PP points this year, I just don't think we hear about it very much as the bulk of the minutes seem to go to O'Reilly, Jensen, Grenier, Shinkaruk, Jeffrey and Defazio.
