You lucky son of the gun!

It has its advantages. I'm thinking of going to one of the day sessions. The weather is supposed to be perfect for players and fans so heat shouldn't be much of a factor in the first week at least. Hopefully this keeps the retirements to a minimum.

I went twice, in 92 and 97, I think. First year for that godawful stadium so I mostly stayed on the outside courts. I would love to go again some day.

Also, I see Rafa and Djok as the heavy favourites and I would put Bianca in for at least the semis. I'm quite worried about Roger after last week's showing.

We used to have players like Borg, Wilander, Edberg, Norman, Björkman, Tillström, Johansson, Söderling etc. Now we're hoping for players to even qualify for Grand Slams. Ymer won't defeat Chung so he will have to hope for a Lucky Loser here. Oh, how the mighty have fallen... Still watching tennis with excitement though.
Sweden was stacked asf in men's tennis from Borg's first major win till Soderling's mono diagnosis. Even though the last decade or so has been a dark age for Swedish tennis, they're still a top 3/4 tennis country of all time along with USA, Australia and Spain.

Nole's draw is insane and Rafa's draw looks like it was picked by Tony.
Here's the big three's potential path to the finals:

(1) Djokovic:
Round 1 - Carbellas Baena
Round 2 - Querry
Round 3 - Lajovic
Round 4 - Wawrinka/Anderson
QF - Medvedev
SF - Federer
F - Nadal

(2) Nadal:
Round 1 - Millman
Round 2: Kokkinakis
Round 3: Verdasco
Round 4: Cilic/Isner
QF - Khachanov/Zverev
SF - Thiem/Stefanos
F - Djokovic/Federer

(3) Federer:
Round 1: Nagal (LOL I misread this name when I first glanced at his draw)
Round 2: Dzumhur
Round 3: Pouille
Round 4: Goffin
QF: Nishikori/Raonic/Coric
SF: Djokovic
F: Nadal

If you would have told me a decade ago that the USO would be Federer's worst hard court slam, I would have laughed. On the surface (...) the USO should suit him so much more than the Australian Open, with an ostensibly faster surface and plenty of night matches. It's pretty crazy to think that his last slam win here was in 2008.

He's had a spell of pretty bad tournaments here, so not holding out for any miracle.

Jan 13 - 106th
Jan 27 - 68th
Mar 17 -24th

Kevin Anderson has withdrawn from the tournament due to an ailing right elbow. Makes Nole's quarter a bit less daunting.

Yeah, boy has she fallen off. Gone from the next Canadian tennis superstar to barely qualifying for majors. She's found a niche in other things so good for her but wat could have been for her on the tennis court.

I often wonder what Raonic would be if he didn't have constant injuries.

Probably a consistent 8-15 ranked player in the world. I don't think he has the complete game to be a Top 7 player, even if he was healthy all the time. Isner is basically what Raonic would be if he was always healthy.
