With Krasnodar leading 2-1 against Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) in the second half, a Krasnodar player's shot deflects off a defender and becomes a lob that hits the crossbar and bounces inside the goal and comes out to be caught by Milan Borjan. Officials failed to see that it was a goal, so no goal is awarded. There are no officials on the goal line in this Europa playoff round match.

A volley in the box makes it 3-1 for Krasnodar. Game is in the 68th minute.

Some surprising early results so far, in a final result Albanian side Skenderbeu got a 1:1 draw with Dinamo Zagreb who needed an equalizer in the 94th minute

In games still going on, Icelandic side FH leading Braga in the 2nd half, Ostersunds got an away goal in Greece, Vardar are leading Fener

Shocks keep coming, Domzale lead over Marseille, Panathinaikos over Bilbao, however Braga have scored an away goal in Iceland

Despite going down to 10 men Vardar added a second goal and beat Fener 2:0, could be the first Macedonian side to make any group stage of UEFA competition

Despite the early away goal for Ostersunds, PAOK scored three unanswered and take a reasonable result back to Sweden

Panathinaikos double their lead over Bilbao

Hadjuk fans making trouble ...

Everton playing a great game and winning 2-0. Those fans are ridiculous...poor players

Hajduk never had a chance once Everton decided to take this tie relatively seriously, the hope was they would play reserves due to their fixtures in the EPL next few weeks. About the fans, not surprising and probably another heavy fine, maybe more, Hajduk are more than repeat offenders. The tie will be over by the 2nd leg anyway, but Hajduk need that game in front of fans as it will generate a lot of revenue

PAOK starting XI tonight represented 11 different countries, not a single of them Greek. Modern football for you right there.

Ajax lost to rosenborg lol. Luckily for ajax, trondheim isn't a fortress. Rosenborg was prob better against Celtic away from home in the last qualifier.

Even though I know they have 'home grown' rules and such I still think it would be better if each league made it mandatory that something like 5 or 6 of your starting XI must be of the home nation (Spanish in La Liga, British in EPL, etc. etc.).

Pretty sure Greece already has them, that's why they have to rest Greek players and can't play them in this game. Great experience for those players I'm sure.

I don't think those rules are good for football.

Not that Hajduk was going to win anyway but missing Erceg, Tudor and Lopez hurt...only wish this team got the Liberec/Tel-Aviv draws from a few years ago rather than the bums Hajduk fielded those seasons :shakehead

Full results for the playoff round 1st leg...return legs next Thursday

Utrecht - Zenit St. Petersburg 1:0
Apollon Limassol - Midtjylland 3:2
BATE Borisov - Oleksandriya 1:1
Dinamo Zagreb - Skenderbeu Korce 1:1
Krasnodar - Red Star Belgrade 3:2
FH Hafnarfjordur - Sporting Braga 1:2
Vardar - Fenerbahce 2:0
PAOK - Ostersunds 3:1
Viktoria Plzen - AEK Larnaca 3:1
Altach - Maccabi Tel-Aviv 0:1
Ludogorets - Suduva 2:0
Panathinaikos - Athletic Bilbao 2:3
AC Milan - Shkendija 6:0
Ajax - Rosenborg 0:1
Club Brugge - AEK Athens 0:0
Domzale - Marseille 1:1
Viitorul Constanta - Red Bull Salzburg 1:3
Legia Warsaw - Sheriff Tiraspol 1:1
Osijek - Austria Wien 1:2
Partizan Belgrade - Videoton 0:0
Everton - Hajduk Split 2:0
Maritimo - Dynamo Kiev 0:0

All to play for in most of the ties, the most shocking result was by far Vardar beating Fenerbahce in Skopje and without conceding an away goal. Rosenborg getting a win in Amsterdam was a shock as well as Sheriff getting a late draw at Legia Warsaw.

In terms of the teams from the bigger leagues, Milan with the most convincing win beating Shkendija 6:0. Everton will take a somewhat comfortable 2:0 lead to Split next week while Bilbao overcame a two goal deficit to beat Panathinaikos 3:2. The only slip-up was Marseille who only got a draw in Slovenia but got an away goal and should progress.

A rule just like that has decimated youth development in Russia.

I was watching the highlights of that game and even though he conceded 6 goals the Shkendija goalie was brilliant. He made a series of miraculous saves otherwise Milan would have hit 10.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
After the foreigners limit was implemented in Russia, we saw a situation when a lot of veterans had big contracts and decreased competition from foreign players, which led to coaches playing them anyway because of the limit. It was also the time when the strong ~1985 generation started to decline, followed by the players born during the hard times of early 90s, both these factors cut the opportunities for the young players, so a lot of people attributed the lack of new talent to the limit (while I lean to think it's more of a coincidence). "Financial fair play" and Russian recession made the clubs more hesitant in throwing big money around though, and we see a lot of new young faces this season playing important roles.

Plzen drew 0-0 @ AEK Larnaca to win 3-1 on aggregate and advance to the group stage.

After a scoreless draw in the Portuguese islands @ Maritimo, Dynamo Kyiv leads 3-0 with 20 minutes remaining. So they should advance.

FK Partizan scored on a fast break (like a 4 on 2) in the 6th minute. Videoton must win. 1-0 Partizan currently, though Videoton are getting some shots. So far it seems like there could be more goals coming.

PAOK are out, lost on away goals to Ostersunds who in their debut season in Europe make the group stages from the 1st qualifying round. Sheriff eliminated Legia Warsaw also on away goals

Vardar have a crucial away goal in Turkey and they are in good shape to progress
