Like with the Champions League, today was the draw for the first and second round of the Europa League. In the first round a total of 100 clubs are involved and matches already start in a few weeks. They also regionalized the early rounds so the potential for 'rivalry matches' or at least rival country clubs facing each other are greater

The most notable entrants in the first round are: Glasgow Rangers, Red Star Belgrade, Lech Poznan and Maccabi Tel-Aviv

FIRST ROUND (June 29 & July 6)
Maccabi Tel-Aviv (ISR) vs. KF Tirana (ALB)
Kairat Almart (KAZ) vs. Atlantas (LTU)
Beitar Jerusalem (ISR) vs. Vasas (HUN)
Ordabasy Shymkent (KAZ) vs. Siroki Brijeg (BIH)
Red Star Belgrade (SRB) vs. Floriana (MLT)

Shakhtyor Soligorsk (BLR) vs. Suduva (LTU)

Rabotnicki (MKD) vs. Tre Penne (SMR)
Rangers (SCO) vs. Progres Niederkorn (LUX)
Domzale (SVN) vs. Flora Tallinn (EST)

Nomme Kalju (EST) vs. B36 Torshavn (FAR)

Haugesund (NOR) vs. Coleraine (NIR)
Stjarnan (ISL) vs. Shamrock Rovers (IRL)
IFK Norrkoping (SWE) vs. FC Pristina (KOS)
AIK (SWE) vs. Klaksvik (FAR)

Not much worth nothing; Rangers open their Euro campaign against a side from Luxembourg who only played in Europe once before in the 2000s. FC Pristina, the first Kosovar side in the EL will play Swedish side IFK Norrkoping.

The draw for the 2nd round will take place in about an hour, UEFA again will probably regionalize the draw and they put these teams into groupings to avoid same country matchups

Here is the 2nd qualifying round draw

Some notable clubs/ties....
- Rangers in the 2nd round will face the winners of a tie between Cypriot/Gibraltar opposition in the 2nd round. The Cypriot side might be a bit difficult
- Galatasaray will face Swedish side Ostersunds, who are making their European debut

Scottish clubs may consider starting their season earlier, Rangers won as expected but St. Johnstone lost at home to Lithuanian side Trakai.

The craziest result was between Beitrar Jerusalem-Vasas...Vasas was winning 3:1 in the 88th minute and Beitar scored three goals to earn a 4:3 win

Yossi Benayoun scored for Beitar as well. I thought he retired a long time ago

Not that many surprising results although runaway Finnish league leaders HJK, who are in midseason, lost to Connah's Quay, a small club from Wales. HJK reached the group stage not too long ago so that would be a pretty big upset imho.

Maybe it won't help much, but Scottish clubs need to start their season earlier especially unlike a decade ago their clubs are starting earlier in Europe. Still, this is an embarrassing result for any professional club

Paddy Power @paddypower

This is the most embarrassing night for Rangers football club since they stopped being Rangers football club

Rangers lost to a club in Luxembourg. Not Luxembourg but a club in Luxembourg. Not the best team in Luxembourg, the 4th best in Luxembourg.

Amazing

I've been an advocate of summer football for a long time to allow for better form for the qualifiers and because it's simply more enjoyable to go and watch football in the warmer weather.

This is still hilarious though.

Add St. Johnstone to the list of Scottish teams already out of Europe, lost both legs to Trakai of Lithuania. Half of Scotland's teams are out already, Aberdeen and Celtic yet to kick the ball yet.

Östersund, making their second season ever in the Swedish top flight, just beat Galatasaray 2-0. Five years ago they had never played higher than 3rd tier in Sweden.

Mladost Podgorica beat Strum Graz away from home 1:0, two Austrian clubs already in trouble as well as Swiss side Luzern who lost 2:0 in Osijek. Things not looking great for the lone Scottish club either, two clubs already out and now Aberdeen must go to Siroki Brijeg and win after a 1:1 home draw

And Hajduk won :thumbu:

Scrappy game, near 50 fouls and barely 3-4 passes at once (both teams). Hajduk were better team and more chances but 1:0 is tricky but the key is not conceding an away goal. Also, the leg in Sofia will be behind closed doors

Saw the game. Thought I would be seeing some quality football from Gala. I was wrong.

Trakai after eliminating Scottish opposition in the first round eliminate IFK Norrkoping on penalty kicks, will set up a Lithuania vs. Macedonia matchup in the third round as both unseeded sides won their ties (Shkendija eliminated HJK)

Other possible upset is Luxembourg side Fola Esch have overturned a one goal first leg deficit to take a 2:1 aggregate lead at halftime
