Zenit in ET with Utrecht while Krasnodar losing to Red Star

Austria Wien are playing their home match at a neutral venue and its essentially an Osijek home game

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

The result of the 6+5 rules in russia was that all of the top young talents got thrown absurd sums of money to be funneled to the top clubs the instant they showed any promise where they proceeded to stagnate and grow complacent, because some where guaranteed big wages & starts without needing to push to progress; while others were lured by the wages before they were ready to earn starts & so found themselves stuck at clubs that had no time to develop them. Still others broke through in the russian league but were paid so well because of those rules that they refused to move to bigger foreign clubs that would not pay them as handsomely...the stagnation of Alan Dzagoev being the primary example of this. He should've moved to a CL club from a bigger league at the start of the decade, yet here we are and the Russian WC will have come & gone with him still just chilling in Moscow.

As a proponent of a more big-fish-small-pond philosophy towards youth development, I'm surprised you don't see how such rules would negatively impact the exact development they are aimed to aid. They just rush kids along before their ready because even the biggest teams have to have X number of homegrown players in their squads.

PAOK and Fenerbahce out so far today.

Partizan with a 3-0 lead and then a Videoton player gets a second yellow to start the second half. Partizan, Rijeka and the rest of the lower coefficient teams will be loving the upsets. They will also like how Dinamo Zagreb has yet to score and that Club Brugge are heading out too, down 2-0 at AEK Athens.

Meanwhile I hear a firework flying through the air at the Krasnodar-Crvena Zvezda game. 1-0 Red Star off an early goal. Game is in the 27th minute now.

Vardar with two wins over Fener, the first Macedonian side to make the group stages. Two of Turkey's three clubs in Europe this season are Basaksehir and Konyaspor...no Fener or Gala

Zenit a few minutes away from pulling out progress over Utrecht; Ajax in huge trouble along with Netherlands' coefficient, very likely their champions won't have a direct route to the CL anymore

Zenit would still be at the top, aside from 1-2 huge surprises in the Champions League which are more and more rare.

What a goal by Hajduk! Radosevic with a rocket, Everton yet to wake up but to be fair that was Hajduk's only real shot on target too

Dinamo Zagreb out of Europe before the group stages for the first time since 2006-07, embarrassing fashion too with all respects to Skenderbeu, not the worst elimination in Croatian history but its up there

Probably secures the title for them, but the changes UEFA will introduce starting next season will make it tougher for them to make the CL

Club Brugge deserved to go out. Shameful performance tonight, even against a very mediocre AEK team

Gonna be a terrible year for the Belgian coefficient

I mean it's not shocking a Swedish team makes the Europa League but it's definitely shocking it's Östersund that did it. I can't see a world where it's not a one-off but hats off to them, and welcome to the opponents that will be playing games there during the freezing winter.. Today it was 5 degrees..

Typical Croatian conceded goal in Europe, Sigurdsson scored a volley from just inside the halfway line (keeper was off his line)

Bye bye Ajax.

Adegbenro. Bought 9 days ago. Scored 3 goals in 30 mins or something (both games).

Dutch coefficient is absolutely destroyed because of that. Will very likely be dropping below Austria, Greece, and Czech Republic.

For 2018-19 that also means losing automatic CL group stage qualification.

Kokorin has taken off under Mancini. Looks like the player he was expected to be years ago.

Two Serbian clubs in the group stages, can't remember if that ever happened, probably in the mid-2000s when Zvezda last were decent

edit: Its actually the first time

Krasnodar got a BS penalty today, so that makes up for the goal from last week. Crvena Zvezda did just enough to eliminate the Russians.

I have to agree, Krasnodar played like crap until the penalty kick. It was a tough draw for a seeded team though, Zvezda is in good form

Czech Republic hasn't shown much though this year, could end up losing points too. The only team to actually "earn" their place so far has been Plzen. Zlin got an automatic bye to the group stage and Slavia is there by virtue of losing their CL qualifier (OK actually they won the 3rd qualifying round draw). Not hard to imagine Plzen being the only one of them capable of earning us any coefficient points and even that's no guarantee.
