I'm not exactly sure about the rules, but I don't think you actually need a kicking motion for it to be disallowed.

Trying to stop the puck with the skate is also an intentional play. And it looks to me that its what the Slovak player was trying to do, stop the puck with his skate and shoot it in.

Well, that is possible. But the rules are kind of weird then, I think. Were there some changes to this rule in the past years? I remember some goals like this being allowed at IIHF events. For example Rolinek at the 2010 WC final.

1. you are completly wrong, kicking motion or kick is a must
2. I dont really think, that he is trying to stop the puck. In my opinion he is braking a trying to hit the puck with his stick, but even if he is trying to stop the puck read point V.

RULE 96 – GOALS WITH THE SKATE
i.
No goal will be allowed if the puck enters the goal net as a result of
a noticeable kicking motion by an attacking skater.

ii.
A noticeable kicking motion is a movement of the skate along the ice
or in pendulum motion as a means of propelling the puck into the
goal net.

iii.
If an attacking skater kicks at a puck and it is subsequently shot into
the goal net by either that skater or a teammate after the goaltender
has made a save, the goal will be allowed.

SECTION 8
64

iv.
If an attacking skater kicks the puck and it deflects directly off the
goaltender or his equipment, or off a player from either team and into
the goal net, the goal will not be allowed.

v.
If an attacking skater turns his skate in any manner with the intention
of having the puck deflect off it, and the puck enters the goal net as
a result of that deflection, the goal will be allowed so long as there
was no noticeable kicking motion.

vi.
If an attacking skater tries to kick the puck from his skate up to his
stick but fails to gain possession of the puck with his stick before the
puck enters the goal net, the goal will not be allowed because a
noticeable kicking motion propelled the puck into the goal net.

vii.
If an attacking skater is jostling with an opponent and during this time
he propels the puck into the goal net with a noticeable kicking motion
while trying to maintain his balance, the goal will not be allowed. The
noticeable kicking motion is the sole criterion, not the jostling with an
opponent.

viii.
If an attacking skater has the puck on his stick and kicks his stick to
propel the puck into the goal net, the goal will not be allowed.

we outshoot the US.

the problem was that we where not gritty enough, which we where against canada.

Most of those shots came in the 2nd period when Team Sweden spent 8 minutes on the PP. It's not a strong counter argument to the idea that Team Sweden will need to play better than it did in the round robin against Team USA.

Nice find. I wouldn't think that would count since its intentional.

Looks like a typical U18 game against USA so far. Gonna take something pretty special.

Why in the world is Bendelin using Ginning on the PP? Took a really clumsy penalty that resulted in a PP goal for the US. Has been pretty terrible all tournament.

My expectations are different. I don't expect 18 year olds to be perfect. I know going in games will be sloppy and passing not as tight. They are kids.

Haven't watched all games but the SWE-RUS game was a lot better. Both teams here have been so sloppy with the puck.
