Top 6 looks disappointing without him on the right side tbh because you have to move up a player who isn't good enough to play top 6 (Eriksson, Leivo, Virtanen, MacEwan, etc.)
Leivo could do OK, I like how he plays in the offensive zone. But with Bo already struggling with speed that'd be one slow ass line.

Sounds like the Toffoli camp wasn't getting updates out of the Canucks according to Moj and Dhaliwal thus causing them to walk and say they're going to test FA.

Benning made a good move in putting his offer on the table and leaving it at that for OEL, but it seems those negotiations have occupied all of the brain trust's processing power and everything else has cycled out in the meanwhile

Unfortunately as Toffoli, Markstrom and Tanev slip away, Benning will have some cap space to make another disastrous over priced and overly lengthy free agent signing which will further screw up the team. Look likes Eriksson moves back into a top 6 role.

Maybe Benning can trade the rights to Toffoli to get a 2030 7th.

That's exactly what it is according to Dhaliwal/Moj. They got too caught up in OEL/Markstrom and thus Toffoli + possibly Tanev feel they're not getting any part of managements time.

By all reports, both Tanev and Toffoli were willing to take good deals on shorter term contracts to stay with the team. Big fish bit on the line and Jim and John knocked all the other rods overboard scrambling for it

Canucks are going to miss out on Larsson and lose all their key UFA’s. Poor time and asset management, deal for Larsson hasn’t been done in 2 weeks, Benning needs to switch coarse fast and focus on his team’s UFA’s & RFA’s.

Can you please provide a link to those reports? Only reports I have read or heard is that their priorities were to stay in Vancouver. Nothing about willing to take good deals on shorter terms to stay.

To be fair, Toffoli is yet another case where Benning's incompetence has saved him from himself.

Do you honestly believe that Benning will be able to find better help for the cost he was set to pay Toffoli?

Next season? Maybe not. But long term, the $20M or so about to be committed to Toffoli can be spent more reasonably, yes.

Can be, yes. Is likely to be? No. Aside from Benning having to be the one to find that value, 50 point players will cost money.

If you can reasonably make an argument that a 50 point winger can be easily had via FA for less than 5x4, then I'm for him walking. If not, then this is a mistake.

No, but that's better than getting stuck with an albatross contract on an over-30 player. If Gaudette or Virtanen or Leivo plays in that role, we'll live. Toffoli was the best of those 4 from a purely hockey standpoint but not worth the difference in salary and paying him 2-3 years after he turns 30.

No, but you can make the argument that you can stick Gaudette/Leivo/Virtanen there more cheaply and improve the roster elsewhere with the money.
