Little reminder to other teams fans that say we are screwed.

How about going all in on sweeteners and then trying to ship TJ to Detroit for Namestikov? Would that be possible for picks?

Don't want Names. But I would ship a 2nd and a 4th round draft pick plus TJ to the Wings.

2M for a guy who can patch up a whole in any line is pretty sweet. Basically duct tape personified for a hockey team.

Other idea. A treeway deal:

TJ to Vancouver for Loui Eriksson. Vancouver gets significant upgrade for same Cap hit and also gets to keep their picks.

Then Loui to Detroit by including picks. Loui should ironically be easier for Detroit to handle since he just have 2 years on the contract. Since Detroit will still be quite crappy for 2 years or so the contract is not a huge burden.

Namestnikov just was never a fit here. We were always too soft in our bottom 6 and he was a big part of it. Plus, $2M is way above what we can afford for that role right now.

trade for Ryan Kesler and spend over the cap

That's not how it works. If you already have one LTIR guy (like the Leafs did with Horton), then that can put you in the position of getting screwed over -- the extra cap space LTIR gives you isn't enough to cover his entire contract; it's effectively offset by however much free cap space you had.

So instead, you go pick up another guy (Clarkson) who sucks up exactly the amount of free cap space you have remaining. Then that unfortunate offset goes down to zero, and the relief you get is the full value of both contracts.

Adding that second contract just means the first one isn't screwing you over anymore. The best it can do is get you back to where you would've been with no LTIR contracts. So going out and finding guys on LTIR isn't going to help us at all.

You guys might as well buckle up and prepare to wait the entire offseason over this. Anything that was going to happen would have by now. We're back to staring contests with zero update territory again

It's going to cost us in the short term. But in the long term, the core is intact. That's all that matters.

I don't necessarily think that's true but once Pietrangelo signs, if it doesn't happen shortly after that I think it'll be the entire offseason.

There's still big fish out there but now that Hall has signed and Pietrangelo is likely to go soon, teams in the running will go to plan B. If it doesn't happen this week it ain't happening.

So much panic. Of course,we can lose some of RFA ,maybe not, maybe Gourde gets traded (pls nooooo) maybe not its not much we (fans) can do with it. But all this situation reminds me last years offseasson, when we needed to sign Point. After he wasn't signed 1st available day,it was panic all over forum "Point leaves,Point don't want to play here,We don't have enough money for him,Point won't sign bridge deal etcetera..." as far it got as frustrated many of fans were but at the end Point signed bridge deal everything went good for us and team. So ,probably some of us don't need to be frustrated at all this situation now? At the end everything will be just fine for us. But if not,we just need to accept that and move on :)

They can't trade Gourde. He's got an NTC. The only forwards you can trade for cap relief are Point and Killorn but the latter is almost untradeable due to his 16 teams no trade list.

Relax. We’re way to paranoid around here.

We have a plan

Thank you... some folks really need to let it sink in that we're champions. I sometimes wonder if it would even help if we got Kucherov, Goodrow and Maroon as drunk as they were for our Cup celebration and remade this music video about winning the Stanley Cup

But we blew it 5 years "Doesn't matter won the Cup"
Cooper just chews gum "Doesn't matter won the Cup"
We're gonna lose all our players "Doesn't matter won the Cup"
We did it during COVID "STILL COUNTS!"

16 teams is a lot, should definitely be able to find at least one taker

We should definitely enjoy the moment as fans, but some of us are just designed different. We hide cash under our mattress and are concerned for what the future holds

I trust JBB to sort things out. Yes, I'm aware circumstances may take some good players off our hands..but the cup win is forever!

So definitely gonna enjoy it for now, no one knows what the future holds, but if we cannot enjoy the moment, then what did we wait 16 years on?

As fans, we should enjoy this time, but we've also got to recognize that while we did the thing, last season's games have already been played.

The only solution is for us to once again realize 'f*** last year'.
