Highest scoring player in 1927-28 was morenz with 51 points next closest was his team mate joliat with 39 points in 44 games. Morenz that year was the only player to go above point per game. Wow such high scoring league.

Except he was the best player on championship teams and he's the first to score 50 goals in 50 games. How many players have scored at a GOAL per game rate recently? The Wonder, Brett Hull, that's pretty much it. He was a power-forward with speed and skill and a Stanley-cup winning captain.

That's without mentionning he was/is the hero of a nation.

Overall good list.
Crosby at #8 isn't a problem. This guy is forging himself an incredible career/legacy - he belongs in that tier now. Obviously will never break the top 4 though, but up to 5th spot is up for grabs for him i think

Biggest surprises for me are Roy and Hasek being so low, esp vs other goalies. They should be 1-2, in some order.
Ovechkin is quite high - Jagr quite low.

Rest i mostly agree with. Well done.

He played in the thirties. You dream up another way to evaluate players other than literally the only stats they tracked back then?

Having the 2nd all time point producing player not in the top 20 is moronic.

It is you are right. But you laughing at a 4 time mvp winner (nhl record among defensemen) being on the list because of points per game is just as idiotic.

Eddie Shore with 284 career pts better than Jagr LOL
In all fairness, the game was played entirely differently when Shore was playing. He was a defenseman and not expected to produce points. The guy played around 50 minutes most games from what I've read, because defensemen rarely moved past the center ice area. Not to mention it was way before 2 assists were awarded anyway.

Jagr is far too low though.

Only Canadians in the top 15 except one and the first non is Ovechkin and not Jagr? Elitism at it's finest.
I don't know. To be fair - which non-Canadian player deserves to be in the top 10-15? You can make a case for Jagr, Lidstrom and Hasek - but you can also make a case for them to be closer to ~15. It's not like there's a non-canadian player who is a 100% shoe-in for top 5-10 that they left off.

You can call it "elitism" when idiots leave off Malkin from the top 100 maybe. Top 15? Nope.

Up until the 90's there were hardly any non-Canadians in the NHL. It should make sense that the list is mostly Canadians when the league has always had more Canadians than any other nationality, and for 70% of the existence of the league there were only a handful of Europeans and Americans even playing.

ok you have proven me wrong. but how good were they still tbf ? better than all players from the past 50 years? not on the list? maybe top 25 players who were great/helped grow the game is a better title for the article
