The main event will feature a title fight: interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao will put his belt on the line against number-four ranked UFC contender Eddie Wineland.
Rogerio "Lil Nog" Nogueira and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will also fight in a rematch of their legendary 2005 PRIDE matchup.
Former PRIDE champion Dan "Hendo" Henderson will face former UFC champion "Suga" Rashad Evans.
Shawn "The Savage" Jordan and Pat "HD" Barry will fight.
9-1 Stipe Miocic faces Soa "The Hulk" Palelei.
Tyron "The Chosen One" Woodley will face Jake Shields
My first inclination as a relatively uninformed observer is that it is quite the card. Would that be accurate.
It certainly appears to have name power.

Nice! Thanks for that, I think that might be the best way to ensure I get in the building.
^as I was in the middle of typing that my mom called me and told me to do the same thing, I'm signing up right now
I hope the rumored matchup between Maia and MacDonald gets added. That'll make for one of the best main cards of the year.
A lightweight matchup between Canadian native Sam Stout (19-8-1 MMA, 8-7 UFC) and Strikeforce import Isaac Vallie-Flagg (14-3-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and a welterweight contest between former Toronto polic officer Sean Pierson (13-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and grappling specialist T.J. Waldburger (16-7 MMA, 4-2 UFC) are the latest additions to the recently announced UFC 161 event in Canada.

I wonder if we'll see Winnipeg's Ultimate Fighter alumni on the cards. Krzysztof Soszynski and Roland Delorme.
Delorme is probable I'd guess (UFC usually gives hometown guys a shot); Krzysztof conversely is probably doubtful after he was absolutely destroyed by Pokrajac just over one year ago and hasn't fought since.

Man the former's name is a nightmare to spell.
UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao has been forced out of his main event at UFC 161 in Winnipeg versus Eddie Wineland due to an injury suffered during the final weeks of training camp, UFC Canada confirmed on Tuesday.
According to a report on MMAJunkie.com, UFC president Dana White said Barao tore ligaments in one of his feet and was not cleared by doctors to compete.
UFC 161, the company’s debut in the Manitoba capital, takes place June 15 at MTS Centre.
As a result of the injury, what had been a co-main event between ex-light heavyweight titleholder Rashad Evans and PRIDE champion Dan Henderson is now the main event. Due to the late notice, it will remain a three-round fight. UFC main events are traditionally five-round affairs.
Big country added to the card. He will face Stipe Miocic.

Dana did try to replace Little Nog.So Calgary got screwed last year with last second cancellations by fighters on the main card due to "injury." Guess it's Winnipeg's turn this year.

Nogueira vs. Rua fight off due to an "injury" to Nogueira. UFC didn't even attempt to replace the fight. I mean why bother, right? The fight is already sold out and they alreasy have the people's money.
Yes, I know injuries happen, but I can't help but be suspicious with this being the second year in a row that a card in Western Canada had been decimated by injuries. I'm sure if it was Vegas, Dana White and UFC would have put some effort into replacing these fighters or the fighters themselves wouldn't have pulled out with "injuries."
UFC pulls the ol' bait and switch again.
Dana did try to replace Little Nog.
Chael Sonnen was going to step in vs Rua, but he ran into visa issues (possibly because he is a convicted criminal).
I am not really concerned one way or the other. Losing two big fights sucks, but big fights do not always make good fights. Almost every year a card will be shat on heavily on the lead in a turn out to be one of the best cards of the year.
You never know how things are going to go until the guys get in there.
I'm still stoked.
