Ottawa
You need to remove JBD, and put some warm body (Chartier?) on your 4th line.
I removed JB-D at the bottom of the sheet to show the available cap space if we place him in Belleville. I kept him above in the sheet as the 7th D as he has a 1 way NHL contract.

No 2 way players are on my roster spreadsheet.

Greig and Chartier have 2 way contracts. Greig can be sent to Belleville without waivers. I believe Chartier requires waivers. I suspect one of them might be retained in Ottawa if Norris is put on LTIR to take Norris' spot temporarily.

We already have 4 players on the 4th line & my roster sheet: Kelly - Kastelic - MacEwen.

We could sign Pinto for $1.5M to $1.7M to complete the 20 man roster. I suppose one of Greig or Chartier could be used temporarily if Pinto is not signed.

Obviously you meant 13F
Old brain malfunction!

-2.95 was the move and still is the move .

-2.95 was the move and still is the move Norris won't be on LTIR beyond 24 days -2.95 would have to happen inside the 24 days Pinto should be here day 1/24 and ready to go a few days later

That’s great to say but it seems there is no trade to make. Would you package Klevin or a 1st to move Joseph ?

Would you package a 2024 1st round pick
Probably not. I think there is a deal to me made somehow and they will have to move $ to sign Pinto either sooner if Norris is not on LTIR or within approximately 3 weeks after Norris goes on LTIR Assuming Norris is ready in that time. They need to make room it hasn't changed

So there’s the problem. There are less than 5 team that could realistically be asked to take on Joseph and it will cost a lot, I doubt Boucher is close to enough.

We don't know, There has been a reluctance to trade him for market value.

There is no trade adder that is worth us signing Pinto IMO. Our playoff hopes don't ride on Pinto, if they did those were not real hopes to begin with. Either he takes 1.7M or he sits out and we move on.

Norris situation sucks, injuries will happen every year, not much we can do but make sure we have some cap space and good depth in the AHL. This year is crazy for cap and depth.

LTIR Norris save some cash, get him healthy for a playoff run, let him sit 30 to 60 days so this shoulder is more then healed. We want that shoulder ready to crash and bang players into their bench. Next off season load him up on PED's and bulk up.....lol

Pinto was mismanagement but maybe they did they know that Norris would be a issue. PD is not stupid, he would not buy and put himself in a pickle. Maybe he had a deal that fell through or just trying to play it up for everyone else? Trades, Norris, Fans ect......

Pinto will need to bite the bullet.

It is What is........

Looks like this will be the opening night roster...

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux
Batherson - Greig - Tarasenko
Kubalik - Pinto - Joseph
Smejkal - Kastelic - MacEwen

Chychrun - Chabot
Sanderson - Zub
Brannstrom - Hamonic

Korpisalo/Forsberg

Kelly waived.
Norris on LTIR to start the season.
Sign Pinto to 1 x 2M.
Trade someone from the roster from now until Norris is back.
Even if Pinto signs in 5 minutes, won’t be in opening night lineup.

They have to be cap compliant.

There isn’t sufficient cap space to keep Smejkal over Kelly at the moment.

Kelly Kastelic McAwen is such a terrible line and we all know that’s where we’re heading…

Ill never understand Kelly being in the NHL and also on a one way.

Might be cap gymnastics cause Smejkal outplayed them all, badly.
Yep, cap gymnastics I guess. Odd to be in this position while we are this part of the cycle. It seems a little premature, but oh well.

I think there is $1.7M cap space available at this time, with Norris on the roster, Pinto unsigned, JB-D in Belleville and running a 17F+6D+2G roster (Pinto would become the 18th F if he is signed). That roster includes Kelly. I think there is sufficient cap space to put Smejkal on the roster but that would start to eat into the 1.7M.
That’s a lot of forwards

Grieg as 2nd line C is going to be an issue.

Chartier as 3rd line D is a gojng to be a gigantic issue.
Tough to have a good start with this situation & lineup. That's why I always stay away from those pom-pom positivity threads. Just seems like a jinx waiting to happen as injuries or contract issues are frequent.

I used Capfriendly to create a spreadsheet with a 20 player roster, including Pinto at $0 (thus a 19 man roster) and Norris at $7.95M. Dead cap is $5.02M. That left $1.7M to sign Pinto and any extra Fs and Ds up to a 23 full roster size. Any players on 2 way contracts would be sent to Belleville.

I'd have waived Joseph and hope he got picked up killing 2 birds with one stone. I would play Smejkal over Joseph on the 3rd line regardless.

Staios has to get Dorion a calculator and have someone spend a few hours with him teaching him how to use it.
Ya, I wonder what the thinking or plan was during the summer. The math skills for calculating the cap seems to have been MIA.

The cap issues come from locking up all the young guys early. Melnyk legacy is killing us, Ryan and Del Zotto buyouts to save money rather than letting them age out.

BIG Game hunting .. Dorion loves the big names. ; Duchene, Debrincat, Tarasenko.

He would have had the same issue if he extended DeBrincat at 8+ so this wasn't his first simple addition failure.

I hope the addition of Tarasenko makes up for all this cap kerfuffle but I have some doubts there even though some people love the move.

I think there’s better stop gap options on the waiver wire than rushing the teams top prospect into a top 6 role. Jaret Anderson-Dolan off the top of my head. But there’s probably someone better if the teams pro scouts take a deep dive into the waiver wire.

Smejkal didn't make it? I thought he had a chance and looked good?

We will see. Smejkal was taking reps on PP2 yesterday. There's always a chance for some shuffling, I wouldn't rule out him being in the line up on Wednesday.

I assume that pretty quickly after rosters are submitted on Monday (1) Norris will go on LTIR, (2) Pinto will be signed, and as soon as Pinto is ready to play he'll be slotted between Kubalik and Tarasenko.

Personally, I'd have just kept Jarventie in that 3C spot in meantime.
That's what I thought but here we are.
