Indeed - Bunting is the only one of the 3 who took less money to play for the Leafs. I bet he'll do it again on his next deal.
Not sure what other offers were out there for him.
I see no reason to think that but you may be right, although 'less' is a vague term.
100k, sure.....5 million, I doubt it.

I could see 100-250k and for 2 years, that's a 500k haircut, it stings.

If you're confident you're getting top 6 ice time with the Leafs though, it's a smart move on his part, he will make far more.

I would think he will be looking for something longer term.

4x4 is maybe something to consider

It'll depend on Robertson and Knies this year, even Amirov.

If they all have strong years or Amirov rebounds, LW is a strong part of our prospect pool and they can get by on lesser cost guys at the position.

Everyone keeps clearing waivers. But you know the second the Leafs waive players, they'll probably get claimed.

Nobody has really been worth claiming. Even the goalies who were claimed were more because there was nothing better and those teams really needed a goalie.

Plenty of players worth claiming. All it takes is one.

But yes, we have superior players to any other team.

Carolina agreed to mutually terminate Grigori Dronov 2 days after signing him to an ELC.

Never seen that happen.

I still like him as a potential #7 more than most, but IDK what is going on with the whole Carolina thing.

I don't think Dubas is choosing to trade Muzzin. I bet promises were made. Anyways Muzzin is no trade this season which is a legal promise in writing. And for goodness sakes Muzzin is the only Leafs' defender made for the rough stuff. The team needs him or someone like him. But I would not discount Muzzin being placed on the LTIR against his wishes which could trigger Muzzin asking to shop for a destination of his own (and probably failing).

There's a reason why Muzzin said it wasn't an injury that caused him to miss the first week of training camp. He can see where this is heading. We've been though this before with Lupul.
Lupul actually was injured though. A 3rd party did a physical when he said he was healthy and he failed it.

The way he’s missed time in preseason so far would lead me to believe you could make a plausible cause for Lupulitis. Chronic back issues, concussions last year.
Lupul actually failed a physical done by a 3rd party when he said he was healthy. He actually was injured.

You would have an extremely hard time selling that to his teammates/media/coaching staff etc. as well.

Beaudin on Chicago was someone the Leafs looked at around the draft before taking Sandin.

100k, sure.....5 million, I doubt it.
He had better offers then the leafs ranging from 100k to 300k better. His plan from the Jump was to come home to Toronto and hopefully make an impact and get into the top 6. Mike won't play for peanuts on his next contract but he isn't going to ask for the moon either. I think term and a fair aav is what he is looking for. I'd say 6 years at 4 million gets it done.

I tried to choose my words carefully and say "where this is headed" acknowledging that this most likely isn't the current situation but could be heading there. I'd say that another injury set back for Muzzin early in the season may put Dubas and co. in action to LTIR him for as long as they can so the team can be solidified with an element that's more likely to deliver through the season into the playoffs.

I brought up the Lupul situation because I believe most of us understand the player's perspective as a competitive athlete who wishes to deliver on the ice. The player often just thinks he can play through and get stronger as time passes because that's what they did when they were young and vital. Most don't know when they're done until they're told that they're done.

Off topic slightly: man alive when Lupul was on (I guess healthy) he was a monster on the ice even in spurts with the Leafs, a skilled power forward who could literally win games on his own.

My preferred move for the Leafs with regards to waivers is to identify a depth goalie with experience who clears and pick him up for a late pick or C Grade prospect. Just some additional depth at that position just in case.

We have Woll and Kallgren. The depth goalies with experience and who clear are guys like Hutch, and I would take Woll and Kallgren over guys like Hutch any day of the week.

This season's starter cleared waivers last season so who knows what the future holds.

I really wanted him in his draft year but I'm not sure about him now

He just hasn't kicked on

I believe it was Friedman the other day saying the Leafs would look to trade forward depth for Dman that was either waiver exempt or passed through waivers.

That being sad, Chicago is probably happy he cleared.

There are some decent depth guys on that list, but hardly anyone I am rushing to give an NHL spot even as an extra. I expect better guys to hit waivers, especially from the Leafs. I would rather keep Anderson and Mete than claim any of those guys, and I would certainly welcome a waiver addition who can upgrade Mete.

Nobody on that list I'd replace one of our guys on the Leafs with. A few guys I wouldn't mind on the Marlies, but that's not how this works.

There are a few players that would be decent claims for a few of the bad teams. Oskar Steen and Kole Lind should have been picked up from the top of my head.

It isn't about us, moreso other teams.

It was also more of a joke where teams only claim Leafs players. And it will happen again.

Steen would have been a great claim for a team like Vegas, seemed like they had a spot open.
