Craig Smith or Nick Spaling would be ideal. But given Hemmer only has a year left before UFA, we might have to add a prospect like Hamilton or Pitlick, or maybe a conditional second if he doesnt resign.

I hate looking at NSH's roster. If we had half the jam that team is going to have next year, we'd be set. I don't think there is a team in the league that will work harder than than team will.

Between drafting Jones, their signings and just the talent they have on their team, I think they could very easily make huge strides this year. Roman Josi I think is really going to break out next year as well. Sure, it's obvious they lack top 6 talent, but I can see them playing a real solid team game like Pheonix and more recently St. Louis have in the past couple of seasons.

I'm still on Peter Mueller, he played last year, he's a big RH center, who can play the wing, with some skill.

I know there's been an injury history, but I see him as a fit and worth the risk on the short term.

1yr $1.5M? I'd love to see it.

That'd be a solid gamble, IMO.

This board is hilarious.

Ryan Hamilton....good enough to dress in 2 Leafs playoffs games against Boston....not god enough to dress on our 4th line?

Hamilton and one of Lander/Acton will make this team out of camp. Joensu does too.

Love it or hate it, but Eakin knows about these Marlie guys....we have to trust that he is doing what is best for the organization.

For the 2LW hole, Kulemin seems like a good trading candidate....right now he's pegged as the Leafs 3rd line LW...only thing is, with Grabo and Mac gone....who is gonna play the tough minutes on the wings with Bolland on that 3rd line? He probably can't be had.

Penner....not happening.

Hartnell....possibly, if Homer goes Homer and offersheets Petro or acquires Vanek. You know the Flyers are looking for a goal scoring winger...they've been begging for Bobby Ryan for over 2 years now....I wonder if they go after Vanek now.

More realistic candidates:
Nick Foligno, RJ Umberger....especially if Prospal is brought back. Either of these guys can be had IMO.

There were lots of AHL signings made yesterday. There's not a chance in hell that Acton makes the starting lineup, and I am pretty sure Hamilton is just a call-up guy too. He's played a grand total of 12 NHL games at 28 years old and has never been a PPG player in the A.

Eakins says they're quality AHL players, MacT listens. All there is to it IMO.

edit: matter of fact, I think it would probably be in the best interests of the organization to keep Acton Sr. and Acton Jr. on different teams.

If you've taken a look at the Marlies over the last few years, Eakin rolls 3 lines and uses his 4th line as "specialists"...2 penalty killers and a fighter.

I think it's crazy to write off Hamilton and Acton until we see them in pre-season. We're not the 2006 Buffalo Sabres....we're not rolling out Afinogenov, Conolly, and Vanek as our sheltered 4th line.

These guys will compete for a roster spot but most will end up in OKC.. No one is going to pick these off waivers and play them on their NHL team. Guys like Acton, Hamilton etc would be great call ups... Just like Larsen and Klefbom..
Organizational depth is now great... we just need to fill in the remaining NHL roster holes..

I'd go 8.4M over 7 years for Pietrangelo, compensation would be two 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd. Front load the deal and do something like 20M, 10M, 7M, 7M, 5M, 5M, 4.8M. I dont know if St. Louis would match the poison pill or not.

compensation is based on total money divided by 5 or deal length in years, whatever shorter. your proposal would be compensated at 11.8m, that'd be 4 1sts.

Peter Chiarelli says Iginla's agent called #bruins to express interest. "At that time I was in the midst of discussions with Alfredsson."

what a joke this "leader" is. Good to see the real Iginla coming out....so tired of "classy" this "classy" that with this guy over the years.

I actually think Kulemin could be had. With JVR, Lupul, Kessel and now Clarkson, the Leafs are getting damn expensive on the wings.

I also believe Franson wants out or could be traded?

I mean, both aren't ideal solutions, but it could be something to consider to round out the roster.

Also, our bottom six spots aren't as open as we think. If we think MPS, Smyth and Joensuu will have 3/4 wing spots. Leaving Brown and Hamilton fighting for the last 2 and the 13th forward.

I still think we need to sign a veteran 4th line C. Can win FO's and play on the PK.

Again, who is playing the tough minutes for Toronto? Bolland between Orr and McLaren?

lol

Agreed on Kulemin, he can play both wings, apparently, and he's listed at 6'1" 225, If he's not to expensive, it might be worth the call.

I want Kulemin.

I really do.

I think Nonis would be stupid to trade him.

Umberger is a decent 2nd option but his 4.6 caphit is a disaster. I'd ask the Jackets to eat 1.5 million....and they probably wouldn't do that....he also played his college hockey at THE Ohio State and probably wouldn't waive his NTC.

You'd think if you've invested ~20M in the wings, and $4. whatever on Bozak, that you could play one or both of those lines in tough minutes.

Unless that franchise spent spent ~25M on 4 wingers and 1 C with Kadri, Gunnarsson and Franson left to sign, only to have Bolland and Kulemin (+ someone else) play the tough minutes, I don't think Kulemin and Bolland will be in that role.

Sign me up for a Kulemin and Franson deal. What do we send back?

Yeah I can't see Leafs dealing Kulemin. They've lost a lot of depth with Bernier trade and buyout of Grabovski.

I still want Cleary and Jones for bottom 6.

Top 6 LW I want Hartnell but if he doesn't move than M. Foligno from Buf is my ideal target. Buffalo is rebuilding so our 1st will be very appealing to them

2014 1st + 2014 2nd
For
M. Foligno + Ott

Foligno-Nuge-Ebs
Hall-Gags-Yak
Cleary-Gordon-Ott
JJ-Lander-Jones

Look at Carlyle's coaching history and remind me of a time where his top 2 lines play hard minutes.

I'll wait for your reply

Don't see how lander has ever proved he was too good for the ahl or shown anything other than being a mediocre 4th line NHL center.

Let this guy develop ffs. Detroit would probably develop him into one of the best 3rd liners in the league. I only want to see him on the oil next year for injury call ups unless he can make a similar impact Boyd Gordon right away, which is doubtful.

I don't know why Tim Thomas isn't getting more interest. Yes he's crazy but if he can still play you have a 2 time Vezina winner in net. Give him a 1 year deal at something like 4 million.

Get er done Mac T.
