I wouldn't trade Drai for Barrie so the 4th pick for Barrie is also a no. Signed or not signed. I rather part with RNH and Ebs. I'm one of the minority that thinks Dubois will be an important part of the Oilers for a long time

but what you are hoping for in Dubois is that he will, someday, be about as good at his position as Barrie is at his, right now. He's rated somewhere between 4 and 9, so he's not likely to be a star player. More likely he'll be a good player, maybe very good. (notwithstanding that Barrie is good at the position/player-type we most need, and is the most difficult to acquire)

In 3 years, Dubois will beat out Maroon, Pou and RNH rather easily. RNH won't even be on the team in 2 years. He's just not worth his contract. I think people will start to realize this eventually.

3 years? and what about the next 2? just... wave them good bye?

This is the key part. As far as anyone knows Carolina does not want to trade the player. Hence it would require something massive to get him and that massive offer wouldn't be worth the price.

If it comes out that Faulk has made a trade request then obviously the dynamic changes drastically, but as of right now we have no reason to believe that has happened.

well, except the Gregor has stated, 'with certainty' that the Canes would listen to offers for Faulk.

take that for what it is. not much, but not nothing.

People are underestimating our own assets big time because the clowns on main boards make us feel that way.

Just because RNH isn't high on our depth charts doesn't mean he has no value. He's still a potential 1C that can play both sides of the puck. A lot of teams are missing that.

RNH + something small for Faulk is more than fair value. It just depends on if Carolina is willing to move him.

The offers of Hall+ or RNH+4th are what you would offer to a team who isn't thinking about trading the player. Problem is, that never happens... for that very reason.

Trades don't happen because 1 team desperately pursues 1 specific player, they happen because both teams know that have what each other wants.

Edmonton's want ad doesn't say ''Desperately want Faulk" It says "Looking for top 4, preferably top pairing dmen. Have offense to trade for it"

In Conclusion: Faulk either isn't available so we need not worry, or he is, and the cost won't be as ridiculous as what I've seen posted around here

that's fair. good post

Won't get into value, but a number of times people have put guys like Nurse or Reinhart into proposals going back to Carolina. Peters has repeatedly said he wants a LHD/RHD pairing and the Canes currently have Hanifin, Slavin, Fleury, Hainsey(this year) and Carrick on the left side. I'm not saying all those guys will be better than Nurse, but it's not a position of need so doesn't add much value to the deal in that sense. I would be similar to the Canes offering Fleury to you guys. Regardless of what you think of him, it's just not a need because you have depth on the left side.

I still don't think Faulk is available at all (this year), unless someone really comes in and overpays. Canes defense is way too inexperience (Hanifin, Slavin, Pesce) and has too many question marks (Murphy, Wiz) without Faulk.

True that there is no legitimate report out there that Carolina is willing to move him or that he has asked for a trade.

These things don't always get leaked though, and I'm sure a lot of big named guys LIKE Faulk or RNH have almost been traded, and we never heard about it. Many of these big deals remain secret just in case they don't work.

I think Chiarelli will fix the D with a deal we didn't see coming. It seems to be 50/50. We had a good feeling Sekera and Talbot would happen last year. Reinhart and Maroon were surprises (one not so pleasant to some of us).

I'm not saying he is available. Just saying if he is, we might not find out until he's traded.

Listening on something and actually being serious about dealing the player are two very seperate things. For the Oilers you can say that Chia is listening to every single player except McDavid. That doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean that Klefbom or Draisaitl are on the way out or that he'd be willing to deal either for what is perceived as "fair value". Every GM in the league does this for all their players, they are all looking to improve their teams constantly.

So at best he becomes our 3rd line center or our 2nd line lw. I don't consider either position a priority. I'd rather gamble on a defenceman

Same with RNH except Dubois will be much cheaper and more versatile. He has the size to move up and down the lineup and can also play wing. RNH is weak against the boards. 4 years in the NHL and he's still terrible at faceoffs

Are you saying the #4 pick is the only way to get Barrie? I'm sure you can get Barrie with Ebs with a small add. This is just me valuing DuBois more than RNH and Ebs in 2 years. Cause i don't see the 2 on the team in 2 years anyway. Neither are worth their contract let alone extending? Just how much are we planning to extend them? 8M? Worst case we sign a gap stop #3C to replace RNH until DuBois is ready.

Barrie will be very good for us but he's not our #1D. The #4 pick should only be moved in a package for a stud #1D. Nothing less. The pick has very upside top be as good as Hanifin. Hanifin upside is greater than what Barrie ever be.

It's true but if the Hurricanes want to grab themselves a young top center, maybe it's worth the risk to give up that value piece on the backend and fill the veteran role through free agency.

Easier said than done. How successful has Edm. been at filling at #1RD (or even #2RD) through free agency? Carolina isn't exactly a hot bed for Free agents. It's not just about getting a vet as they would need a very good vet.

Faulk is available, because Faulk isn't OEL or Doughty, he's a top end player, but hardly untouchable.

Getting Faulk out of Carolina will be expensive for the Oilers, but nothing that they can't afford to pay. And if Carolina is suggesting something the Oilers "shouldn't pay" there's no reason to think that Chiarelli won't walk away from that.

I wonder what the Preds are going to do this offseason, you would think all they really need to add is a bit more depth upfront.

Other than the "Anybody can be traded for the right deal" or "A GM would listen to offers for anyone", how do know "Faulk is available"? Other than a couple of Oilers media guys talking (speculating) about it, there's nothing to indicate he's available and it really doesn't make sense from Carolina's standpoint. Of course it's possible, but it's really not very likely (at least this season). My view is that Francis isn't looking to move Faulk right now, but of course he'll listen to offers as he's said in the past he'd listen to offers on anyone. That said, I don't think he's "making Faulk available". So if someone wants to come knock his socks off, sure, he's available. If someone is offering a "fair value" type deal, I think he'd say not thanks as it might fix one problem, but creates another.

Tough to say, was Forsberg hurt? His play in itself was a huge set back for them, although the scary thing for them is both Fisher and Wilson had huge playoffs for them.

I feel that they are regretting Riberio's deal as one kinda expected to happen.

I just don't know if they have a lot of money to go out and target anyone. Two guys I think they could move are Smith and Wilson, but what are you getting back for them?

I could see Nashville moving one of Ekholm or Ellis for fair value. Not sure either is an answer for the Oilers though, although I'd have my ear to the ground if I was Chiarelli (due diligence and all). But I agree, they will probably move one D and prospects for forward depth.

I didn't put much stock into it when it was just Stauffer. He flings **** a lot, but Gregor hardly ever talks the way he has been lately with regards to Faulk and then the article had some strong wording.

Like I said yesterday, makes you wonder if something happene behind the scenes.

One Staal dealt, talks about the other Staal out there, Skinner was out there as well.

I have several hockey fans in Carolina, and apparently the local media there has been spinning that they're more than willing to jettison Faulk for a E.Staal replacement.

There's definitely smoke there. My comment wasn't a "well if Gretzky can...blah blah blah", it was a Faulk isn't being shopped, but the Oilers could get him for the right price, so don't be too surprised, and don't pretend it'll cost multiple 1st borns either.

I don't know if they can to be honest. They played that top 4 so much and they really got worked over vs SJ. Weber looked awful yesterday could tell he was getting tired. Only way they can move a guy IMO is if they add a vet to play in the top 4.

The price for Faulk would be huge. Hall + 4OV at least.

As if Faulk doesn't get you Hall or the 4th, why do fans always way over value players, name one dman that ever got something like Hall and 4ov
They were saying RNH and an add on
I would guess RNH and Reinhart would get it done and I am fine with that

Seems odd with Staal there to help Rask and Lindholm develop. Then again I guess you can move J.Staal for d help

I'd be interested in Staal and Faulk, but Skinner is a no go from me. He doesn't bring anything different than what we have now and he hasn't been the same since his rookie season. If the deal was something around:

RNH
Yakupov
4th Overall
+/-

For

Faulk
Staal
13th Overall
+/-

That'd be ok for me.

I'd love to get Ellis as our 3rd pairing/PP specialist. The price to get him shouldn't be to crazy.

Canes have major holes up front.. They need alteast 3 top 6 forwards.
On D they have one of the best upcoming group in the entire NHL.. In a couple years (with Faulk) Canes should be on par with STL\CHI in terms of Defense.

Something like RNH+Eberle+4thoverall should shore up their forward group.

Faulk+Staal coming back our way.
