Yes they would. GAA is another useless stat that people still reliably record. People record it because its easy to record and people still care about it (mostly with respect to fantasy hockey). Doesn't mean it has any value. There are other stats that convey what +/- is meant to (GF less GA tied to gamestate) without being as misleading. That's why its useless stat. For one, it doesn't actually convey what some people think it does (defensive ability or net effect on the game). More importantly, 5v5 GF% or ES GF% demonstrate the same concept +/- does more clearly.

The Big three +/-, GAA, and FO% could all use additional barometers to solidify the stats. GAA needs to take into consideration the quality of the chance and award points for 10 bell saves. FO% should only record critical FO which could easily be defined as PP/PK wins/losses. End zone face offs after a goal or in last 2 minutes of a period/game. Or any win/loss resulting in a goal if the puck never quits the zone.

One again if would heighten the value of the stats IMO.

I don’t really like it either like the advanced stats. They really don’t say everything look Arizona

Arizona is an example of bad usage of stats, not that "advanced stats" (which isn't really a thing) are bad. Chayka is big on very situational stats. I was referring to more macro-stats.

fun fact

when Alberta farm hand Bret Kulak was 16 years old he went to Rexall and saw a young Petry on the "shut down" pair with Ladi Smid...

There are stats that do what you're saying for GAA (xGAA differentials). FO% is useful, but generally overvalued, since there are so many change of control events in hockey. And you can easily determine FO% situationally, but because of sample sizes for big game centers, the variance isn't significant enough to have much value. The only real takeaway we have for face-offs is that guys are better at face-offs on their strong side.

There are GMs who use the eye test and are crappy scouts and fail. This doesnt mean that we should never scout players.

There are GMs who use advanced stats but are crap at using them and fail. This doesnt mean that we should never use advanced stats. A shitty gm is a shitty gm even with the right tools.

The best GMs know how to use both smart scouting and smart analytics. Neither should be ignored and both have their place. I dont know why someone would not want to use one of them. Both are valuable tools and having more tools in the toolbox is a good thing.

lol nobody needs to show useless advanced stats to tell that kulak is not a top4 dman .

You can say anything with numbers and all the dumb advanced stats , tell that to Arizona GM , who only uses that . Arizona been trash non stop since that.

If you are to lazy to watch the games and watch a player and look at him to see hes clearly not top 4 material but try to find any single useless stats give him an edge that he could be top 4.

Maybe you should focus more on the game than the numbers and advanced stats. dumbo

you see, now you made an argument, as opposed to a clear and lousy statement where you unilaterally decided you are right and brought thompson into the discussion while he never even been mentioned by him. that was my issue with your post. Not the fact whether you , him or me believe kulak is 4th or 5th defenceman,

He still didn't make much of an argument though, it was still Kulak isn't a top 4 cause I say he is not. He didn't actually bring anything to the discussion. Credit for using more words, but that doesn't mean he said something.

This team need a LD quickly

this team needs to play the young players like other successful teams are doing, and develop them . much more then they need one position or the other

The problem, management think us fans are stupid, and probably, we are, as seems many more then us care what the coach speaks then winning or not.

Funny though most of the habs winning in the past was under english speaking coaches, but yet no one dare say it , except few on this board

Lucky the people of ontario where ok with a nigerian leading them to an nba trophy and not demanded a 6 born and raised.

Excellence has no borders, we shouyld wake the F up . or should i say they should not us

While the Canadiens have highly improved their power play this year, their penalty kill has fallen apart.
The team currently sits 29th overall in the league when it comes to the penalty kill with just a 61.1% efficiency rate doing only better than the Winnipeg Jets and winless New Jersey Devils.
The team has also given up 23 goals tied for fourth most in the league.
Kelly points out that the Canadiens' have given up almost the most amount of scoring chances and the quality of scoring chances are too high.

THUS better fix this now, this team is up and down, no direction

there's a big cultural difference between a culturally English province vs a culturally french province who was persecuted until 1970 by the English people... anyway, not here to start a debate, but the 2 provinces are highly different by the way they were treated before the revolution tranquille.

Hearing specific rumors? I don't imagine he sticks around but I haven't heard anything lately.

Likely just an idea. Would the Alberta boy want to play in Montreal is the big question! Imagine if he signed back with the Oilers? Bet you he might sign with the Avs! They have a contender and cap space to spend.

Hall would be a awesome fit for us IMO. All we would need to do is unload Tatar and Byron. However, if I was Hall, I would want to play with more proven centers.
