Look at the timeline. Habs under MB have several Russian players either through draft, trade or UFA. Habs rumored to be interested in Shipachyov early last year (pre CJ). CJ comes in and the Habs go out and acquire King, Ott, Martinsen. Off-season every Russian player but Scherbak is gone (unless you count Galchenyuk as Russian, but his value was likely too low to trade in the summer imo) Now they have no interest in Shipachyov. Funny that pre CJ we had lots of Russians and interest in others and now under CJ we have hardly any. So was it MB that soured on them or does CJ have some issue and why? Just seems very odd that just about all of our Russian players are gone and we don't have interest in a player we were rumored to be interested in signing.

Seems you aren't the only one with this theory...

Is there a way to get rid of Petry at some point? Or his NVM is for all of his contract years and we can't move him unless buyout?
You can move him if the destination is to his liking. If they're on a Tankin job, they should definitely not fear asking him to waive. It won't sink them further if he says no.

I would give Garth Snow a call and require about Tavares and then I’ll offer him this;

To Montreal:
John Tavares
2nd pick

To New York:
Alex Galchenuyk
Charlie Lindgren
1st pick

Max Pacioretty - John Tavares - Jonathan Drouin
Paul Byron - Philip Danault - Artturi Lekhonen
Charles Hudon - Tomas Plekanec - Brendan Gallagher
Nikita Scherbak - Michael McCarron - Andrew Shaw

Victor Mete - Shea Weber
Karl Alzner - Jeff Petry
Brandon Davidson - Jordi Benn

Carey Price

Did Bergevin say the answer "was in the locker room"? If so, Weber for Subban. Fair deal right?

Well what else do you want him to say? He’s thrown his players under the bus numerous times, that way he won’t blame himself and admit that he failed. Plus he ran out of excuses just like he’s going to ran out of a job.

Also, when he stated “if you want loyalty buy a dog” pretty much sums it up as what kind of GM he is.

We really need to pull the trigger on a Pacioretty for Puljujarvi + 1st round pick trade asap
Oilers coud still miss the playoffs even with the addition of Pacioretty, and we could get another lottery pick

I would say small. He’s Galchenyuk Pacioretty size but I agree with being soft.
Isn't he listed at 6 feet and 190 pounds?

Bergevin not biting on Ship because he's thinking 2 steps ahead.

He thinks NYR will trade for Ship. Shortly thereafter, he'll pluck from the waiver wire a certain cuddly, captain-pleasing, #1 line-centering Ewok.

Bergevin playing 4d mahjong. Us mortals cannot comprehend his genius.

We desperately need a LD. Benn & Alzner have been very bad. Someone with offense.

Offensive D - Weber
Mete - Petry
Alzner - Benn/Davidson/Morrow/Juulsen

Trade him and eat 50% of his salary or just put him in the pressbox, Plekanec has to go.

Quit wasting giving minutes to him, he's done and let Galchenyuk have a shot at centre. Plekanec isn't even responsible defensively anymore and he's an absolute disaster offensively.

Blockbuster trade: I think Snow bites. Here is the break down and how it makes sense.

Islanders trade:
- Halak (1 year at $4.5M)
- Greiss (3 years at $3.33M)
- Pulock (Right defenseman, age 23)
- Aho (Left Defenseman, age 21)
- Beauvillier
- 2018 1st (Islanders)
- 2018 1st (Flames)

Habs Trade:
- Price ($2M retained this season and 6/8 years of his next contract)
- Patch ($4.5M for 2 years)
- 2018 4th
- Montoya ($1.06M)

Trade Breakdown:
- Price (Salary retained), 2018 4th, Montoya = Halak, Greiss, 2018 1st, Beauvillier, Aho
- Patch = 2018 1st, Pulock,

Islanders Cap situation:
1) 2017 - 2018 season: $3.07M currently. Habs have to retain on Price's contract this season to give them cap flexibility. They will want it and we would not have a problem with it.
2) 2018 - 2019 season:
- $34.7M with 11 players signed.
- Add $2M in Salary cap increase and they have $36.7M in cap space with 11 players signed.
- Subtracting Price ($10.5M - $2M retained), Patch ($4.5M), Montoya ($1.06M) contracts and adding Beauvillier ($0.89M), & Greiss ($3.3M), Islanders have about $27M in cap space
- Resign Tavares at $10.5M, Bailey ($4M +/-), Nelson ($4M +/-), De Haan ($4.5M +/-), Islanders have approximately $4 in cap space with 7 players to sign. Tight and the Habs would likey have to take on a cap dump at their choice. Maybe Cizikas or Clutterbuck? I'd take Ladd's contract off their hands if he would waive his NMC.

Cup Contenders and Tavares likely resigns IMO
Lee / Tavares / Eberle
Patch / Barzal / Bailey
Ladd / Nelson / Chimera
Kulemin / Cizikas / Clutterbuck

Leddy / Boychuk
De Haan / Pelech
Hickey / Mayfield

Price has no value...

He does, they said the same about Roy when he was shipped out of town. Put Price on a team not full of waiver wire pickups and size, and NHL dmen.. he's back to the top winning a cup.
