Gauthier would be nice as well, not sure Poehling and Scherbak gets those two in return though

Poehling > Bean
Gauthier > Scherbak

I tend to agree it is a bit one sided but not by a great amount. If the Habs add a 3rd round pick, they might bite. Position of needs from both teams make this deal work. I'm not trading Poehling for cheap and I would not do a straight up deal with Poehling for Bean. Canes appear to need help at center and they would be very interested in Poehling IMO

I agree, would stay away from him. I would throw all kinds of money at Pannarin though, even if I think he would never sign here. If that would happen then you could use some of our extra wingers and prospects to trade for a real defenseman.

Panarin seems like a good fit.

He wants a big market city and he wants to make money, he will get terms in Montreal.

Man, just a Kotka/panarin or Domi/panarin line would be insane. We need a talented scoring winger like him

Not sure we can afford the Breadman, unless we do a sign and trade while sending another big contract the other way that Columbus would want. Love to have him, just can't see it happening

If we can improve our top 4D and help Price out (sooner rather than later), I'd be willing to go all in on Panarin. But I think we need to focus on the D first. It's a major issue.

I think the trade to make is Petry for a young potential top pairing LHD.

Filling a hole by creating another isn't the way to go since you will end up with too many LHD with most of them not being good enough and thin on the right side.

I think the trade to be made is Mete + for an established top 4 LHD with experience and terms on his deal. (Not expecting to get a legit first pairing D no matter what we give up). I know a lot of person saw Mete as a future part of this team but i don't saw any progression to his game since last year.

Back to normal. Hopefully we keep losing hard so theres no doubt in anybodies mind that we are seller at the trade deadline. This team really need two other big draft to hope for success in the future. Getting lucky and win the first pick overall would be gracious and well deserved. Weve been sucking for a long time now.

At the trade deadline will have some pieces with certain value on the market. Its time we really stock up on good prospects and high picks in the draft

Best value : Weber , Petry, Tatar , Byron.

We really have to entertain trading those guys. It wont happen all the same season but we have to start unloading this year. We can expect first round picks and prospect if Bergevin negociated well (like he did for Paccio)

Small value : Price , Shaw , Benn , Schlemko , Scherbak but good pieces to package in a trade to obtain something better

We should keep our younger players while we are rebuilding

With Drouin, Domi , Armia, Gallagher, Danault , Kotkaniemi , Lekhonen, Hudon , Mete , Juulsen and all the prospects already in the organisation we have an interesting core. I would give it a go with the younger guys.

Time to move on from the Price and Weber era. The Bergevins one too

The more I watch Mete, the more I think he'll fizzle out. I'd like him to go to Laval to see if he can recapture his offensive game because right now, he doesn't have one.

I also think he needs to go to Laval, but even there....i don't see top 4 potential in him unless he find how to shoot in the NHL or carry the play.

I see it the same way but neither one of us are the GM. I think Bergevin does not have the guts to do a proper rebuild so I think Petry stays.

Heading into this year, I would of told Kotkaniemi that he will get some NHL games as a measuring stick for him to work at his game once we send him back to Finland. I wanted another tank year where we play the youth and let them prove themselves. I did not want Kotkaniemi part of this mess. I want Kotkaniemi in his prime years and under team control (ELC/RFA asset management). I would of also had a meeting with Weber and Price to let them know what the plan was. The plan would be I want you guys to lead a youth movement. There will be growing pains but you guys are part of the future plans for the next 5-8 years.

But yes, I would definitely trade Petry if the return was right. I actually think he has increased his value even more this year... after the very good year he had last year. Were talking about a very good #3 guy on a cup contender!

However, I don't see Bergevin doing a proper rebuild. He thinks he can get the missing pieces while still trying to make the playoffs where anything can happen. Definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results.
I think he’s doing a reload, and moving a Petry for an early 20s LD fits the timeline.

With Weber and Juulsen coming back and Brook/Fleury not far away, we would be able to replace Petry adequately enough.

I'm going to re-visit a trade I mentioned a few weeks ago... I know most prefer not to trade Poehling but I think we should consider a trade if we were able to snag a potential top 4D on the LD side.

Poehling and Scherbak for Bean and Gauthier

Poehling > Bean
Scherbak < Gauthier

Who's has a good scouting report on Bean and is he another Juulsen or better? I added Scherbak and Gauthier to even out the value. Not sure if the Canes would be interested but I might be. I think Bean can play with Weber as early as next season or even this year.

Bean / Weber
Petry / Juulsen
Reilly / Schlemko

Mete, Alzner

The earlier we address the LD side the better IMO. Price is not going to tollerate this horrible D for too much longer

Bean sucks and Poehling far better than Gauthier. Zero interest in that trade.

Definitely, we need to adjust the top 4 ( i think the last pairing won't be a problem since they are almost all last pairing D)
With weber coming back I still think we would need 1 more solid piece in our top 4.

I know Montour is available and I know MB is actively ( from friedman) trying to trade a D. I LOVE MONTOUR, quick and fluid skating paired with great vision. You think Mete is a fluid skater until you see Montour skate. He also has a great one timer release for the PP.

Let's say Weber is healthy, Price too and we get a young amazing LHD then we can go all in for Panarin.

I agree. If we can somehow shore up the top 4D and provide shut down ability to help not expose Price, I'm all in on Panarin... as a UFA though. I'm not interested in trading futures for him.

I was high on Bean, but man do the Canes want to trade him... I kinda lost faith in his value.

Bean is still developing well. I think he brings a smart style of play and he can move the puck. I think he's a great piece to pair up with Weber. I have not seen anybody give a good scouting report on him yet however. All I know is he still has legit top 4D potential.

The goal here is to improve our top 4D (LD side) sooner rather than later. We need shutdown ability and guys who are not a liability in their own end. Guys that can move the puck and make good passes to forwards with momentum.

Price needs help. He's being exposed.

That's MAYBE 2 years from now....not now and none of them proved to be an NHLer yet. Need experience on D, kids always have problems the first few years and many don't amount to anything, you can't put Tinordi and Beaulieu on your future top pairing without even a game in the NHL, but that's what a lot of fans did. Brook and Fleury might just be that again.

But by getting a LHD for a RHD or a forward, you still need to get rid of at least one LHD.

I'm kind of leaning towards keeping Petry as a bridge for when Brook, Fleury, Romanov are ready. I think it would be a smart move to see how he looks on the LD side.

The other thing to note is we have probability working in our favor in terms of the future. Beaulieu and Tinordi << Juulsen, Reilly, Brook, Fleury, Romanov, Harris. Some are going to go back and cherry pick Thrower, Didier, Ellis types but it's not the same kind of hope. Draft+1 or 2 years of development needs to be factored. No matter how people spin things, we did not have quantity working in our favor back when. 8 top 100 picks in 4 years don't measure up.

I also think he needs to go to Laval, but even there....i don't see top 4 potential in him unless he find how to shoot in the NHL or carry the play.

People should probably remember that Mete is the 6th youngest active D-man in the NHL. The only guys younger than him are Dahlin, Heiskanen, Jokiharju, Valimaki and Sarge. He's also one of the smallest D-men in the NHL.

He's not done developing and its going to take time for a D-man his size to learn how to choose his spots to get chances offensively. And while he's not carrying the play exclusively on his own, the Habs are outshooting, outchancing, outscoring and out-attempting opponents when he's on the ice. He's obviously had to many defensive breakdowns and he's not facing the toughest competition right now, but I don't see how a person couldn't see top-4 potential there. Look at the development of pretty much any undersized D-man.

When he's struggling at 23-24 I'll start to be concerned, but not right now. He's not been as bad as some are making out and small D-men take time to develop.

you say shutdown D and I'm thinking someone in particular who is under-rated and need a change:

Dumoulin

But I highly doubt Pitts wants to deal him.

Plugging a hole with an ufa like Pannarin without losing a piece would be a dream. We would have more than enough assets to trade for a top LD after that.

Fair enough. But are you prepared to continue to let Price be exposed and a 3+ GAA? If this trend continues all year, we are going to test his patience

The thing I'm scared with Petry is the Seattle draft.

We can't protect Petry + Juulsen,mete,weber.
Smartest move would be to deal him at the end of this year after his 2 best years in a row.
But Right now though we can't move him, way too valuable to the team.

Go hard for Muzzin and pick up Panarin.

Would need to be creative for it to work though.

I rather target someone younger and I agree, I don't see the Pens unloading him. They need to improve their D. I don't see them trading him for cheap either.
