What is all this talk about getting a FWD? We need a competent #4 Dman, not a FWD!

Herrmann suggesting we should make a bold move and trade one of Reinhart or Pulock for a veteran forward...not sure I agree but I do think we need to make a move.

Also the veterans that are on the market could be had for way less then Reinhart or Pulock.

"Yes, we know that would violate the Islanders' master plan and go against the flow that has helped fuel their rise. By the same token, this has developed into such a special, sentimental season, it would be a shame to let it slip away."

This logic terrifies me. I thoroughly believe the team needs another legit top 4 defenseman, but this season will be a lot less magical and special if we spend the next ten watching Pulock score from the point against us.

My thoughts as well, we are making the playoffs unless we have a MAJOR slide, and that means like a sub 25% winning percentage the rest of the year or something crazy like that.

I don't like the idea of Chara (assets for an old, declining player), but a top 4 stopgap would be great. Let Griff replace Hickey or Vis and bring in a big, crease clearing defenseman. I don't have any idea if this is our year, but I suspect we need to walk before we run. So maybe that top 4 upgrade comes over the summer, or maybe Griff/Pulock comes on really strong and becomes the guy.

We might as well call up Pulock to fill the need.

All this team needs is to get healthy anyway. We're going to easily make the playoffs, we dominate possession.

Halak gets even lukewarm for a couple weeks and we're in the catbird seat.

I tend to agree with you on the bold. We should have a nice run over the next 3-5 years, no need to panic and empty the warchest to bring in an aging (albeit still effective) player. Make a minor move to bring in a steady physical 5/6 defenseman, who comes relatively cheap and let the chips fall where they may. Dealing Griff/Pulock because we must go for broke this year would be foolish, IMO.

I remember seeing an "elite penalty killer" thread to the isles, but for some reason no one really liked the canucks guys we offered up. don't know why tbh

a free one will probably be brandon mcmillan. he's here to just plug in because we're injured up front, and will probably be back on waivers within the next few wks

he's very pluggy, doesn't skate fast. but, he's been very good on the penalty kill IMO.

to be honest with you, as both player and spectator, there is no reason in the world you can't have at least an average penalty kill unit with average depth players, let alone high end to elite players like what we have. None, with a period. PK specialists are not so rare and exceptional that they need to be brought in at a premium either. In other words, the problem is not the players. Yes a few upgrades on size on D and F would help, but the wholesale improvement of the pk is not dependant on bringing in "pk specialists.". It will be system, and practice. it takes 4 guys and a goaltender who communicates better than Halal to improve this ****.

All of this talk of the Isles doing nothing, literally NOTHING, at the trade deadline just annoys me so much. The latest is Cyrgalis of the NY Post to report that the Isles will simply stand pat at the deadline. Has there even been another team at the top of their division in late February, competing for the top spot in the conference, if not the league, that publicly declares we are doing nothing to improve the team and add those one or two pieces that could be the difference between losing in the first or second round and a possible cup run?

Nobody is saying they have to get Yandle, or Phaneuf or Kessel or even Ryan O'Reilly, and nobody is saying they have to give up Griffin Reinhart or Ryan Pulock or Ryan Strome or Brock Nelson or Dal Colle. But why would you not even TRY to maybe add some cheaper pieces like a good third/fourth line PK/faceoff specialist or veteran forward or a #5 defensemen that would improve on Thomas Hickey? Why not at least try?

Are you telling me we could not add the likes of a Jay Mcclement or Erik Cole or Jeff Petry or Andrej Sekera or Zybnek Michalek or Curtis Glencross or Chris Stewart by offering Mayfield, Ho Sang, Donovan, one of Bailey or Grabner, second or third round picks. Maybe not...I dont know, but at least try. Dont just say you are not doing anything and be happy just to make the playoffs yet again.

I am just holding out hope that Snow is doing his usual shtick of misleading and keeping everything close to the vest, because I feel like most of his big moves have come after saying they arent doing anything. I just feel like you NEVER see a team in the position we are in that does not make at least one or two minor moves.

I would agree with you if I was confident that we were going to see both Grabovski and Okposo back this season. All season until these injuries I've been in the stand pat camp.

I can't imagine factors like CMac, Clutter on line 3 and MallRat/Harry Z in the lineup are good for our possession #s.

They aren't as bad as having 37 in the lineup!

Injuries happen to most teams. Isles finally have the depth and built a cushion in the standings to deal with them.

Snow has also traded away A LOT just to get here. He doesn't have a lot of ammo left to improve the team unless he is mortgaging a pipeline for sustained success.

I think the bottom is going to fall out on this deadline. Prices for players will be suppressed. Not a lot of cap space for this season, teams concerned about next seasons number as well.

Thought I'd post this "NHL Trade Deadline top 15 Targets" from NHL.com

The writer seems to think that Jeff Petry is the only one the Islanders might be interested in.
I would like to see the Islanders go for Chris Stewart, and then put him on a line with Tavares. Stewart seems to score goals when he's put in the right situation, but mainly I'd like him to protect JT.
I notice teams are running Tavares lately and in some cases JT has been losing his cool and taking bad penalties.

Let's face it, Stewart is a dud and a disappointment.

I'm not sure if the Isles need another forward, and if they do, the guy if definitely not Chris Stewart. I'm not sure why there is an obsession of getting a police officer for the first line. Their job is to put up points. Stewart sucks.

Also, if Franson returned a 1st, so I wouldn't be shocked if Petry did. I don't think we have the assets to acquire Petry nor the room to resign him.

I'm not sure if Pulock's injury has set his development back at all, but I (along with a lot of others), have projected him to take over for Vis next year. I'd also move Hickey and bring in a veteran with size for the next two years (like Florida did with Willie Mitchell) and pair him next to Pulock and be a placeholder for Reinhart.

The Isles should be a playoff contender next season. Drop Viz and put in a rookie? I don't think that is happening.

I notice the Islanders have problems against bigger physical teams. I believe the key to beating the Islanders in a short series, is to bang the hell out of Tavares. Keep taking him in, without any fear or retribution and watch what happens. It will be very ugly.

Who is the Avs backup goalie ? And Roy always loved Poulin, so maybe ??

Reto Berra.

Don't think that's a likely scenario. Seems like Johnson has been playing quite well.

Truth is probably we will stand pat. Eklund's predictive success level is generally quite low.
