You don't trade Buchnevich for Blais+2nd without a part two to follow
part 2 has to be for Eichel...which I would be thrilled with. Wild would have to give up too much for Eichel and not knowing if he's healthy and available just doesn't make much sense.

Or they might not have liked his ask when they're already paying Panarin $11M, Kreider $6.5M (with a NMC) and will have Kakko and Lafrieniere 2nd contracts to navigate in the next 2 years.

Still, probably should have gotten a better return.

the return is not very good at all. Expected at least a 1st and player for him. Oh well!

what part of blais and a 2nd puts NY over the top in a trade for eichel?

also creates a hole on wing.

part two i highly doubt is a center.

Buchnevich was going to need a big raise from his 3.25M contract, so moving him for Blais+2nd clears the need to use the cap on him.
Buchnevich has put up numbers similar to Fiala the last couple years, so Blais+2nd is an entirely underwhelming return for that, even pending a new contract.
New York still has Panarin, Lafreniere, Kakko and Kreider on the wings, so there is no "hole" right now.

Part two may not end up being Eichel, but you can logically deduce this was not a one off deal just because they didn't like his contract demands. Especially considering they are the frontrunner for Eichel at the moment, it's not a leap to think part two could be Eichel.

you can also logically deduce that their current 1c is a free agent after this season, and they need the cap for that.

Would be a weird move to clear cap today to re-sign Zibanejad in 5-6 days, a year early, but sure.

Rumor on the main board is Jake Bean could be available for a 2nd? Not sure if there is any truth to this... but interesting none the less. I know he is a lefty but does he actually play left side?

Canes fans not so enthused about Bean the more they saw of him. I think Guerin will be going for older, steadier guys. We've got speed and PMD on our D. Just not any size, and we're light on basic defenders.

I'd give up the 54th selection to give Bean a shot. Still young, might do well with a change of scenery, and we need more D.
