People seriously overrate the impact of skating instruction. A skating coach spends at most a day or two evaluating then demonstrating a laundry list of drills to practice. Then it's up to the player to spend the next several months performing those drills religiously whenever the player gets on the ice. Then it's the same thing with the strength and conditioning people: evaluate and give the list of work to do then it's up to the player.

Back in January, Brock Otten had Brazeau ranked #1 in OHL overages worth signing ... Over Felhaber...

To be fair, the Goat started off looking like Bambi, he put in a lot of work. Hopefully this kid is willing to do some hard work too :)

Gauthier never skated like this guy. If Brazeau could skate like the 2019 Freddie Gauthier, he'd be 2nd line material with his hands.

That is how most things in life work. Barb will video his stride with 3D sharp angle camera video and then break down each body part movement and then put video in best practices skating software to figure out how best to make minor improvements to increase both speed and agility. When you see this camera and the software and you watch the before and potential after of same skater on her laptop it is truly incredible how far we've come since my day 30 years ago. Plus it can be put on a stick so you can watch it as you do the practice drills. Like I said truly incredible advancements in technology. But you still need the trainer to explain it all in real skating lingo.

Even with being an overager with huge size 61 goals is impressive.

I suppose if all 61 goals were pushing over little 16yr old dmen it’s not that impressive but still

Alot of solid 18/19 year old defensive talent and good goaltending in the OHL.

yeah that's good. Fingers crossed his skating can get up to NHL level because a kid with that size and shot would be exceptional on a team with playmakers like marner, Matthews, JT and Nylander. I know he is unlikely to even make the NHL let alone be up with those guys but a guy can dream cant he

Will never see a NHL game.
Not sure how you can say this with certainty.

This isn't true.

Another small way of flexing some financial muscle to gain advantage under the salary cap. That's ELC money for a player that's destined for the AHL next year.

It's a nice signing with huge upside. Anytime you get a prospect for free it's a deal this one more so with skill set and size. Congratulations Leafs.

This guy was pretty targeted, surprised he chose us. Or the Marlies at least. Has the one thing we obviously lack, size.

He's a prospect in our system, that doesn't count towards the Leafs 50 man roster.

He'll be given a chance to improve his skating, and work on his game, particularly over this summer.

He'll be given a chance to play, and see whether he can become a quality AHL player, or maybe even a quality NHL player.

More raffle tickets, is better than none... maybe he turns into a player, maybe not, but better for us to have a 6'6" prospect, than someone else.

ELC's get signing bonus and $70K per season in the AHL too no? its basically a ELC but only in AHL form.

Can’t believe we landed him on an AHL deal lol, kid probably got 15 NHL offers
If that were true, he would have likely been drafted by an NHL team. Kids with his size aren't usually passed by at the draft. So, his skating must be butt ugly.
