Why?

If you get to the point where you
have to rely on a 35 year old defenseman to help out your blueline, aren't you just better off playing a prospect at that point?

Give someone like Holzer the spot instead? Blacker? Gysbers?

Why nab someone who isn't apart of your future, as a stop gap, when you have able bodied young men who likely deserve a chance?

I'm just not sure where he fits, unless the Leafs plan to stock defenseman and hope to take advantage of the trade market.

(Not lines, just throwing names out)

Carl Gunnarsson - Dion Phaneuf
Jake Gardiner (INJ) - Cody Franson
John Michael Liles - Mike Komisarek
Morgan Rielly - Mike Kostka
Mark Fraser - Korbinian Holzer
Wade Redden

That's a lot of names in the mix currently. Not to mention another NHL experience player on the farm in Mike Mottau.

NHL Defenders:
Gunnarsson, Phaneuf, Gardiner, Franson, Liles, Komisarek

Hopefuls:
Holzer, Kostka, Fraser, Rielly

Redden makes no sense. Nonis just got rid of Connolly and Lombardi. Schenn was traded for JVR by Burke and now kicking the tires on Redden? How's could this possibly make the team better?

As per Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

"Multiple teams considering options on both. LA, STL, TOR, FLA among those kicking tires on Redden,"

Surprised, I don't know why or what he'd contribute to the Leafs. Don't really need him imo. Something small. Thoughts?

The Leafs already have a pylon on defence named Mike Komisarek; they don't need another one in Wade Redden.

Why would MLSE want to be kicking this?

The last thing the Toronto dressing room needs is a player who couldn't be motivated to play in New York while being paid as a top 10 defenceman in the league. His habits, his atttude, his example are anathema to the direction this club his heading...A direction Redden has been rocketing opposite to for years now.

Kindly bid Redden, toodles, Dave.
