Friedman: Toronto and SJ could pursue Panarnin as a rental.

Leafs already had two top 6 centres and went out and got one better than both. Everyone blue cheered. Why not get a winger better than any you have as well?

It would depend on what that cost. We need to keep Horton off LTIR and have enough space to cover bonuses, or it will make the squeeze next year even worse

LOL. Yes there is........in THIS world. Panarin is way better than Kadri. Panarin doesn't just have 3 months left on his contract, he has a full year!! Panarin will also likely re-sign with whoever gets him.

It's not in the cards for T.O. and you're out of your mind if you think you're getting a three time 75-point player for frigging Kapanen and a pick.
Have you not been paying attention? Panarin has stated he wants to be in a few select cities. He's not going to re-sign with Nashville or Toronto or Anaheim etc. And as a Leafs fan, him playing the full year is pretty meaningless when your team is a lock for the playoffs. We'd want him for a cup run, nothing else. The borderline teams like the Islanders, Panthers etc would be much more keen on having him for the full 82. Kadri is incredibly important to the Leafs as well and quite frankly, it doesn't seem like you know shit about him, Kapanen or the Leafs situation.

Good luck. Columbus has little to no leverage
Once again, if Jarmo is a half decent GM he's going to maximize Panarins value. Meaning he's going to trade him to where he wants to be and extend, thus making Panarin more than a rental. If he's not traded by camp than I'm not expecting less than a couple 1sts.

Panarin might not command a young top line roster player with 1 season left, but I guarantee he'll be the hottest player come TDL. Teams that want a true difference maker will pay the price.

Ah yes, a player is available so naturally SN attaches the Leafs to him to generate interest.
Even if it makes no sense what so ever.

The last paragraph is where you are wrong. #1 Panarin has not asked out nor has he indicated he wants out in fact his agent said if this was about a 2 year deal it would be done already but its 8 and hes unsure he wants to be here that long in the city. So he let Columbus know just in case they wanted to make a move based.on that intel or if they were fine with him playing out the year. He told them he wont talk with any team about contracts after training camp. He is doing what Islander fans wished JT would have done. #2 Kadri might 30/30 in Toronto but he wouldnt do that here. We dont play the open offense he would need to put up those numbers. He would likely still hit 50 though maybe 55. 25 and 30 at best and if he doesnt need a PP to score because its unlikely he would see 1PP here. #3 Yes if it was about a true 1 year rental and the C was putting up those numbers for that cost that wasnt Kadri... id agree. But those numbers I dont see as the norm for him especially outside TOR qlong with Panarin more so being shopped extended instead of rented.
Kadri takes defensive assignments in Toronto and puts up those numbers. Getting more offensive time would help improve them, if anything.

Leafs make no sense.

Sharks make a ton of sense. We've been talking about Panarin on our board as one of the main targets since we missed out on Tavares.

Leafs won't go after Panarin. I don't think they would want to give up the package of picks/prospects, plus they already have a deep top 9. There's no chance they could re-sign him, so I don't think Dubas would do something like this. He's already stated how important it is to keep picks and the pipeline full to have young, cheap talent surrounding the core.

Unless I read it wrong, they were saying to rent panarin it would cost nylander and a first. So after this season we would be down nylander, panarin and that first, forever lol. Would be just worth it to go after a D and try multiple times at cups.

So.. it’s speculation. Which you said it isn’t. Lol
No speculation is based on something, other than someone just spit-balling. He based it on nothing other than that they have cap space and could be going for it. It was clearly his opinion.
