6x$6.5M for an undersized, slow offensive specialist D in his 30s is like a Backes-level contract
If its true that they offered that and he turned it down, then he's as good as gone. That was more than a generous offer, imo too much.

He wants to cash in, so be it. Wont be the firsr or the last player to want to max out

With the pandemic Krug and many others will not get the big pay day that is expected.... why there's a good chance Krug stays in Boston. I like Krug but the bruins may have some internal candidates to replace him. I would like to see the bruins go after a bigger top 4 mobile physical D man.
Only way I see this happening is if the market is soft and he takes a one year deal and then hits the market again next off season.

But with his skillset, I think we see at least one team pony up.

Love the player, but you can't keep everyone.

Say it's a 6 year deal, what are the chances you get good value in years 4, 5, and 6?

At some point, you've got to turn the roster over through draft and development.

I hope Krug gets paid. He's earned it.

Great point. I hope people that want Chara back remember this as well. As much as certain players are loved and respected (Krug and Chara are on different levels here, of course) there is a time to move on and it's often more than a straight value for money equation.

I do think the pandemic will probably lower the big payday Krug wants, no matter who he eventually signs with. Does that mean Boston keeps him? I like him but six years is a long time. Maybe he's checking in with other teams first and if they won't go any higher, he'll take Boston's offer.

Who knows. :dunno:

A New Look at Aging Curves for NHL Skaters (part 1).

Something the article mentions is that there's so little data on players 35+ and <23 that the end of the curves are more about selection bias than actually being statistically relevant(I think we all know that defensemen don't peak at 22, for example)...but interesting stuff nonetheless.

Well he played defence on the best defensive team in the league with the second best power play. Guys well loved and a leader of this team. He was also a great playoff guy and was our best player in 2019 playoffs. Advanced stats don’t say it all. Give the guy some credit he’s been awesome here. BTW I’m not crazy about a six year deal either.

BINGO.......Let him walk. He is not a playoff DMAN. Sign AP with that money.....I dont understand the problem with that ?. As long as he would come here....This is what we should be doing.

Love the idea but I really wouldn't hold out much hope for AP . I think he stays in St.Louis

If this happens, he better have a deal in place to trade Kase + Moore somewhere because we'll need the 14 million we have now to keep Debrusk/Gryz/Chara and upgrade the top 6.
Chara likely gone

He can upgrade the top 6 by putting Krejci with Pastrnak

Sigh ...

I really want the hobbit back with us. But the money...idk..its a lot what hes looking for. I hope they can come to a conclusion but damn. It looks like he might be gone and tbh, it sucks.
I don’t believe they ever gave him an offer or if they did it was not 6 years

if it’s 6X6.5 M with a pandemic Going on and lost revenues to play in his preferred place I’m in

I’d counter NMC and bump it a million since 6/40 sounds better

Agreed on all accounts. I'd let Chara walk and think they plan to. I'd also put Pasta with Krejci. However, that isn't enough in the top 6 IMO. You need to move JDB to 3rd line or trade him, and then you need a 2LW if you plan to move Kase to Bergy's line. Somebody who fits better with Krejci and will produce. People list Hall but I don't love the player and I think you can get good production cheaper.

Then you address the biggest hole, IMO. Left defense.

Yup - DeBrusk to 3 with Coyle

I love the way Tampa was able to take a Donny Marcotte good 3 zone player with some O skills like Palat and stick him with two studs in Point & Kucherov.

what a line - legit hockey porn

Cassidy putting all his eggs in one basket just nuts

You have FIXED duos
Marchand-Bergeron
Krejci - Pastrnak
DeBrusk-Coyle

I love it because your third line has second line components

then your flexibility comes in

assume your 4th + is

Frederic-Kuraly-Wagner
Kuhlman
Ritchie

You have Studnicka, Kase or Senyshyn who could go with Coyle

Who can play LW with Krejci
Who can play RW with Bergy

I like the Saad for Bjork deal ~ Saad with Krejci & Pastrnak would be outstanding

if it’s for Chiasson I’ll lose it

I like your plan. I loved what I saw of Studnicka, and I think Kase might be worth a real look at RW with Bergy. I like something like this:

Marchand- Bergeron- Kase
2LW - Krejci- Pastrnak
JDB- Coyle- Studnicka
Frederic/Nordstrom- Kuraly- Wager

- Kuhlman, Anybody but Ritchie

1LD - McAvoy
Gryz-Carlo
Lauzon-Clifton

#1 Goalie
Halak

I'd be shocked if that was the Bruins offer and he left for a mil more per season. Either the offer isn't real, or Krug is looking for 8 plus. No chance he uproots for 7 mil more total.

I don't know. If he felt slighted in some way, like the team not discussing a re-up during the season, or a real crappy opening offer, or a one year deal, he might be done with the Bruins on a personal level. I don't pay much attention to what they say publicly. Most of these guys will just say whatever their PR person/agent tells them to say. They've all been coached.

Guessing he has an offer for 7/56 minimum.
