good trade regardless but I wonder if they lost faith in Marner as quarterback of the powerplay and targeted a specialist. Maybe they want to reorganize things with a quarterback who is more of a shooting threat. Or want Matthews more involved as a shooter which is tricky with Marner because they both want the right side of the ice.

I like the players we got back, and happy for Kadri to finally get the ice time he deserves on another team. I will definitely be watching less Leafs game now :(. If Marner is gone than I'm done with this team. He will put up 70 plus points and hopefully this not another Steen trade. It was great reading the posts on this forum and will miss it for sure.

Cool. So you cheer for individuals and not a team.

Will Kerfoot be a UFA after this season? He turns 26 in October 2020 which is when UFA eligibility hits, but will still be 25 July 1st 2020.

Since Kerfoot is likely to get a 1 year arbitration award, it would suck to lose both Barrie and him next offseason.

edit: turns 26 August 2020 not October sorry.

So we loose a player that was locked up on a good contract with term for a guy that has one year left on his contract???

Not sure I'm all for this one. We just became even more of a non aggressive team in an area we sorely lacked in.

Also, Free up cap to sign one of or both Muzz and Barrie. The moves genius, yes it implies a very real possibility that Marner will be shipped for large return and simply be used to ensure continuance of the teams contender status. If Ceci is signed for 2 years we could flip that contract as well. He did amazing work here. He is a wheeler and dealer, mover and a shaker as I said in one post, that's what this new league is about.

Welcome to the NHL Kyle, this was the moment that makes you out to be one that should be taken seriously.

He's been watching Masai make big moves and get a parade out of the deal. :)

Can't we just hear Masai saying "Remember Kyle, it's the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back."

It’s 27 or 7 years. So we should have him for 3 years i think

IS Barrie good defensively.

What is his two-way game like. What about playoff performance. Is he strong in his own zone.

I see a lot of stat flying around and I have watched him a bit but this would be something that should be getting talked about more. Glad he is a RHD though for sure.

I will admit I know about as much as you about Barrie. One "expert" said that Barrie is very similar to Rielly but has more of an offensive upside. He said they skate similar, they move the puck in a similar fashion and they defend in a similar way.

If that is true we got a steal of a deal.

I was just looking at it. I was born in 1991. Is Tyson Barrie the best right shooting D the Leafs have had in my lifetime?

Obviously guys like McCabe and Phaneuf played their off-sides but in terms of right handed shots the runner ups look like an aging Larry Murphy, Pavel Kubina, and Cody Franson... That is insane.

I don't think he plays like Gardiner a big loafing slow guy who makes endless breakout passes/icings. Pretty sure Barrie is the speedy and elusive puck carrier type like charlie macavoy.

Dubas is not afraid to make moves. And some moves aren’t easy when dealing with players people like. But you can’t be afraid to try to make the team better. Some things will work and some won’t but I respect seeing a major deficiency and addressing it.

We needed D and he went and did it. It’s a lot more than others have done over the years.
Now the next hard decisions will be who to keep out of everyone as the cap only allows so much higher contacts.
This year will be a new core evaluation.
Which forwards, which D do you keep?

If that is true we got a steal of a deal.

If we can extend barrie we got a steal if a deal. He is a top 3 rd. We gave up our 3rd best center and got our best rd. Hard not to like the deal although the risk is finding an extension
