Does anyone realize this team was under .500 in their last 40 games? This isn’t some juggernaut.

Dubas did his job and improved the D. Let’s get that shrimp Marner signed and see what happens.

That team had it's issues before the Gardiner/Dermott/Rosen/Borgman injuries all hit us basically at once, but that issue definitely exacerbated and magnified the problem. I'm pretty comfortable in saying we'd have gotten on track sooner with better defense to fall back on. I mean, Gardiner and Dermott NEVER got healthy again last season.

Comes at the cost of pricing ourselves out of retaining him past this season

depends on what he's asking for, but I have faith kyle can make it work

now he's got obvious deficiencies in his own end, but if we let ceci and muzzin do the heavy lifting in a tight game and let him do his thing on the offensive side with morgan able to support him near our net, we should be good

but the consistent offensive upside is undeniable

the last rhd we've ever had with near 60 pts in a season was larry murphy in 95/96 (61pts)

a very long time coming

Lee scored 40 once and Hayes is a stupid stupid signing. A 6'9 million dollar 3rd liner on any NHL team is simply a poor use of cap space, on our team is worse than poor use of cap space. If Nylander is not on the top two lines , he is gone.

The reason Nylander was on the third line this year was because of his struggles from signing late. He's a 60P guy.

Playoffs he was forced into a role he wasn't comfortable with because of Kadri's idiotic actions.

He's the #1 RW

At his cap hit he better be on the 1st line and anything less than 70pts would be disappointing. I just want him to be more engaged on a regular basis

We kinda have two first lines. So really anywhere in top 6.

Nylander is here to stay, his cap is really quite fair even now with Hayes and Lee getting 7M.

Its a terrible idea to move Nylander for space for Bracco. The only thing I could see happening is moving Kapanen for D is Bracco comes in flying and looks like a top 6 RW out of camp and into the regular season
We will have to see how the season plays out.
Obviously there are different expectations of salary level throughout the lineup.
And with many new pieces, we need to see how we come together as a team.

I would like to be able to keep Rielly,Muzzin,Barrie moving forward. I think that is a solid core but again we will see.
We gave up a 1st, Grundy and Kadri to get these pieces so if they are solid, retaining them is key.

Barrie fills in a top 4 role, depending on where he's played; Assuming this is a move to fill Gardiners' spot. Is Ceci the player for Hainsey's vacancy?

Point is that there isn't a shred of reasoning to conclude that the sentiment regarding Jake Gardiner was due to the fact he's American. You can push this false narrative if you must, but don't expect to not get called out for it, as even the insinuation is frankly insulting.
I have every intention of continuing to say what I feel to be true on this website. thanks.

Kadri felt like the most movable piece out of our roster players. His talents were wasted on the 3rd line and we badly needed a quality RD on an affordable deal. Hope we can keep him and Muzzin moving forward.

The backend is looking much better now than it was after bringing in Barrie, especially once we get Dermott back. But that bottom 3 is still terrifying. And no Liljegren & Sandin will not be regulars this year.

Rielly - Barrie
Muzzin - Ceci
Harpur/
Marincin - Holl

As one of the better offensive Dmen in the league the past few years the rumours are suggesting that his next contract starts with an $8 mil figure request which is one of the reason Colorado was prepared to deal him with cheaper and younger versions in their system to replace him.

With the Leafs willing to invest in trade to acquire him, one would hope some pre-homework was done and the plan is more than a 1 year rental of his services.

Keeping him beyond this year and moving from $2.75 mil (because of 50% retained) to > $8 mil will require some more warm bodies tossed overboard to make cap space however.

Maybe Leafs plan is also to buy some more development time for Liljegren or Sandin and so how Barrie fits into the Leafs long-term plans will need to be seen.

I agree it's looking better , but Dubas might still need to leverage Nylander to get that elusive top 4 piece. Let's see if he can get creative moving forward , that D is improved but still not above average(imo).

Solid trade by Dubas , should be a good season for you guys.
