Gardiner would be a good use for the Canadiens IMO given their cap space and team needs.

The issue is his requested term...if he signs for anything beyond 4 years he would be our 3rd longest tenured habs player as of that moment along with Weber and Price. Not exactly exciting to have an aging core signed to long contracts.

Bergevin seems to be in a strong position with cap space, a ufa available and also multiple potential trade partners. I guess he’s going to take his time and make sure it gets done right after they screwed up rushing the Alzner signing.

Jackets would want one of your top forwards for either Murray or Nutivaara. Both have spent time next to Jones and have not been out of place. CBJ sitting with a surplus of LHDs and could afford to move one for a forward. Werenski and Gavrikov both top 4 guys that are less likely to be moved. Kukan and Harrington both third pairing capable guys available for lesser value or available in a package. Murray and Nutivaara (and Savard) just seem to be the most likely to be moved because their high trade value and that one is usually playing third pair minutes.
What's the ask for Murray or Nutivaara?
Brodie could be a fit.

Would be alot cheaper than most options and has shown in the past he can fit on a top pairing with ease.

Prefers the right side, but plays the left side also.
What's the ask for Brodie?

Best fit short term would be Gustafsson....he has only 1 year left before becoming UFA and Chicago has only 10 forwards signed with Perlini still to sign.
If he can keep up at last season's pace, I would be interested. What's the ask?

Ryan Murray + Sonny Milano for Tomas Tatar + Alex Romanov
I would do this.

How about Kotkaniemi, Suzuki and a 1st to Tampa for Sergachev and Gourde.
I'd be interested in Gourde but what's the reason for the decline in numbers year over year?

Armia and a pick should do it.

If not something around a pair of second rounders.

Normally speaking he would be worth far more than that but this offseason has been weird.

Nick Leddy fits the OP's criteria probably better than anyone else who is realistically available. 3 years left on his deal covering his 28-30 years and at a reasonable $5.5M cap hit. He is an elite puck transporter due to his amazing skating ability. Maybe not a stalwart defensively, but that can be mitigated with a strong partner like Weber.

2020 1st and 2021 2nd.

At least there was 2018.

Dmitri Orlov could be a fit after this season. The Caps have Dmitri Orlov, Michal Kempny, Christian Djoos, and Jonas Siegenthaler on the left side this year and have Alex Alexeyev, Martin Feverhary, and Lucas Johansen waiting in the wings.
