Leicester city just replaced their manager with former Liverpool/Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. On his first day he said "I'll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club." Let's hope we can find someone with that kind of attitude, and spreads it throughout the organization, from the upper management down to the ice. Edmonton is a proud hockey city, one of the greatest on earth, we should be able to get this right.

Dreger on 1260 thinks it'll be a minimum of three years to get the team highly competitive, which a lot of us already know/believe.

Dreger thinks next week could be an interesting week for the Oilers on the GM front now that the deadline has passed and the GM meetings are next week. He also said Burgers and Kretz will be in attendance. He alluded without directly saying Nicholson will be asking other GM's for permission to speak to AGMs face to face, but referred to it as "talking with many hockey people". He also mentioned a potential tandem of McCrimmon and Mark Hunter in some capacity...not as a rumor, just speculation.

As much as I hope Burgers would legit go all out on this, I suspect he'll just attempt to interview McCrimmon and if that doesn't go well, he'll just take Gretzky and spin it like how the Oilers always do.

I mean, if Hunter was an option, wouldn't there be more about him given he's not tied to any NHL organization. I could understand the other names TSN listed since they are, in some capacity, actively employed by another NHL team.

Huh? We are gonna hire a GM based on what other teams think is best? This org is so clueless. They have no idea what they're looking for yet.

Takes me back to 2013 when MacT and Lowe bragged about how other teams told them that the Oilers are on the right track.

I guess to be fair to Nicholson, this is probably the same method he used to construct his Team Canada management groups. Just doing what he knows.

That explain the last hire.
Bob : "Hey fella's who is the best available GM I should hire"
Every other Organization : "Oh hands down that Chiarelli fella"
Bob : Gee Thanks guys!
Every other Organization : *Snickers*

They would be very smart to talk up MacT. "Oh yeah, MacT is such a good guy, I loved working with him when he was your GM!". "MacT still with your org? I remember he talked about analytics. Such a smart guy, definitely someone we would look at trying to add to our org if he was available!".

Can only imagine how much they will be making fun of Nicholson behind his back if he's going around asking other GM's for help to find the next Oilers GM. Does he realize he is involved in a cutthroat business with millions of dollars on the line? He certainly hasn't acted like he gets it yet. Not long ago he was bragging about how much other GM's liked working with Chia as a great quality.

Good ****ing grief. Are we that blind to the rest of the league unless they were part of Team Canada or former Oilers? Look at teams that have drafted well (Winnipeg anyone?), teams that have made wise trades, etc. It's not an exact signing as Fenton was a lot of people's top choice and he is straight up killing Minnesota. The GM needs to have an eye for talent, be willing and able to find and attract quality scouts, etc. Winnipeg has the same problems that we do in terms of being a northern city that's cold and less than desirable to many players yet they have done it the right way there and because of it they have retained much of their core and are a damn good team.

Nicholson better not blow this. I don't think he knows what the hell he's doing though.

The organization should do what NFL teams have done and hire a former executive as an advisor to assist in the GM search.

I don't know if the Mark Stone trade and impending extension has an impact on Kelly McCrimmon's chances as Oiler's GM.

I imagine the former Wheat Kings coach/GM/owner spoke to Mark and sold him on Vegas and maybe working together again. Perhaps for a longer than just the rest of this season?

GM candidates the Oilers should interview according to TSN:

- Kelly McCrimmon
- Ron Hextall
- Tom Fitzgerald
- Chris Pronger
- Bill Guerin
- Mark Hunter
- Craig Button (LOL)
- Al Murray
Did he get a divorce?

The only guy on that list who makes sense to me is Al Murray, who is hopefully a front-runner.

I'd hire Burke as the POHO. Yeah I said it.

He actually interviewed people and made a good hire in Calgary. That's infinitely more than any turd we have in our org can say.

MacT - 1 interview, ended up getting hooked like a fish by Eakins
Lowe - 0 interviews
Howson - 5 interviews to pick someone that would fetch the coffee for everyone after he was promoted from that job. Picked someone really good, but not sure it's applicable here.
Nicholson - 0 interviews, planning to go around asking his competition for tips on who to interview

Hiring Pronger would be so crazy that it might break the curse after that POS left. That said get ****ing real TSN.

Button? The only guy that looks more goofy than MacT and is probably even dumber? **** you TSN.

Pierre McGuire was the one who brought up Button's name and I think he only did it because Button was standing a few feet away.

Not GM related, but what do you guys think of Guy Boucher as a coaching option.
I thought he did fairly well with Ottawa before they were decimated by bad press and trades.

They already called Boucher and he declined. Said he is going to coach in Russia instead.

2 great points on Lowetides show today.

John Shannon reports that Bobby N will consult with the other NHL teams at the GM meetings regarding hiring a GM.

Point 1...why in the world would Bobby N think that the other 30 teams (teams that would like nothing more than to beat the Oilers badly) will help the Oilers in this process?

Point 2....why would Nicholson make public what he is doing?

How on earth can anybody feel confident that Bobby N will get this right?
Maybe somebody can convince me that this team and this process are in good hands because I am just not feeling it at all.
