Yeah. I really don’t see the need for Calgary to go out and spend what it takes to bring in a real upgrade at LD. The depth there obviously isn’t perfect, but it’s not so bad either, pending what you get out of Valimaki/Zadorov. But with Valimaki, at some point you’ve gotta give him a bit of a chance to push his way into the top-4 and prove he can handle it. Zadorov is the sort of piece you can use to do that, without really “blocking” him. Zadorov is really that classic #4/5 “tweener”. He’s not a guy you ideally want in a rock solid contending Top-4...but he’s capable of more than bottom pairing minutes.
Between those two, I think you’ve mostly covered off whatever minutes Hanifin-Tanev don’t play. Between a pair of sorta #4/5 tweeners.
It’s not awe inspiring or anything, but it seems at least serviceable. With the potential to be a lot more than that, if Valimaki comes back healthy and strong.
Pretty much everyone in that division is playing with at least one wonky wheel, or some sort of timeshare/depth rotation somewhere in there Top-4D anyway.
