Boomers tweet is classic idiocy from someone who barely knows what they’re talking about but has an inordinately large platform to say it.

DeAngelo’s tweet itself isn’t bad at all but it’s going to be a long career if he follows every half informed criticism and takes them all to heart.

For his play, like all D men we have he needs to get away from AV and his horrible system yesterday. Doesn’t make sense to judge any defender based on their play stuck in this absurd joke of a scheme.

How recently did Boomer turn blowhard? I haven't listened to sports radio in a long time but my memory of Boomer was that he was more reasonable than most.

The best way for DeAngelo to shut Esiason up is to go out and play really well for a sustained period of time. Just saying. The problem I have with Esiason on this is that there are a lot of players not playing all that great and to single just one out is not right. We all know what's going on with the team and how raw our defense corps is. ADA has a good point in the sense that he's still just a young kid trying to find his way.

It’s not that the response content was appropriate. It’s its source. If Lundqvist, even Skjei said: “Hey Boomer, these are young guys who work their damnest to get better and that fans need to be patient and continue to show support as they did in Tampa”, every one would have applauded (well, except those that think he’s average, overpaid or both). With DeAngelo’s reputation he should be staying out of it altogether.

Kinda similar to how mouth picked Pionk to pick on? See what radio does to people? Mouth used to save puppies. :)

You had me up until you said moving ADA. Young D men have a tougher time in their first couple of seasons than forwards do, so I'm cutting these young guys a LOT of slack.

[Off topic: I like ADA a lot but I LOVE Gilmour. I am really excited to see what he can develop into. He's got all the tools, especially quickness.]

Yes, I`m aware of that, but he is a similar player type like Kevin S. and they are not strong defensive - he can still be a good player and specialist like on PP, but we need prospects who are strong defensive and have size. :)

Exactly though Mouth's remark was if anything even more ignorant. Esiason really didn't say that DeAngelo sucks--Mouth absolutely did say Pionk stinks. I don't know how he got his job--maybe his parents own the radio station.

You know he does look lost out there.

ADA- Don't ask for support when the team sucks and you're not doing that great. That tweet just highlights that you need more time in the minors.

If there was depth on D.... you'd be there.

You know what was fun? Those games where ADA was with McD and they crushed it together. He was matched against Crosby and did well. Put the kid with Skjei and let them grow together. There’s no need for him to be with O’Gara who is awful

He’s pissed about the rebuild. You could tell he was frustrated after the McD trade when he had Gorton on the show, since he mentioned how much he pays to be a season ticket holder.

Like I said, he has an inordinately large platform for how little he knows, much like mouth and many other personalities. You don’t get mass media exposure by being smart and nuanced with very few exceptions like Valli who has his platform in large part due to being a player, too.

If boomer doesn’t like the rebuild he can stop going to games and offering his opinions on the team. Gorton has forgotten more about team building than boomer ever knew.

I really like watching him play, but he needs to start putting up points. He's a liability if he's not creating offense.

Calling him a liability is ridiculous imho. Its like ppl WANT him to suck in his own zone...and see a guy score and are like..yep. .liability.

On the goal against he had his man.. He had 2 guys stuck with one..and it was a goal.

If we watch any defenseman...any of them..shift in and shift out...they do TONS of wrong things. Wrong reads. Wrong pickups. Poor board play. Bad passes etc.

Calling deangelo a liability in his own zone is either holding a player...a young player at that...to a ridiculously impossible standard or simply not understanding the actual position.

Not saying deangelo is Victor hedman in his own zone...but a liability?
He's fine in his own zone..I'd say league average at absolute worst.

In most cases he's playing the system exactly as he should.

Is he perfect? No.

Do I like the kids game...and more importantly the potential I see? Youre damn right.

Just tired of seeing the same old things thrown around as if it's gospel.

Kreider is hockey dumb.

Ok

AV wins so he must know what he's doing.

Ok

Deangelo is going to be my next pro bono defense project.

I don't think he's been elite or anything..but there are flashes of brilliance in his game. Sheer brilliance.

His edge work, vision, and ability to make accurate breakouts under pressure are fantastic.

He and Skjei played terrific games together...it should be noted that Gilmour...who played with ogara..looked like absolute garbage...and nobody is going to say squat.

Because we didn't trade stepan for Gilmour I guess.

To be fair, O'Gara has been pulling a Girardi/Staal and making his partners worse. But I mostly agree with your point. Skjei-Tony was our best D pair by far tonight, and it wasn't remotely close.

Yep...that actually was my point tho...Ada was playing with ogara for the past few games and being put out there with only the 4th line it seemed...tonight he plays with better players and he looks fantastic.

Its because q.o.t. matters....a lot.
Deangelo...to me...has looked very promising...I see potential 2nd pairing defenseman in him...and not as his ceiling either..but as his median.

I really like his game..as in sure most of you can tell.

O'Gara is not awful.
Truth. He’s actually pretty good in his own end despite some bad luck. He’s active and gets around well. Maybe not great on the outlet passes. And pretty much a black hole on offense at the moment. But he is actually, I’d say, head and shoulders better than Staal. I know that’s not saying a ton but he’s doing okay and may have some upside too.

Disagree... Staal may be skating with bricks tied to his feet instead of skates..but he's got a borderline elite sweep and pokecheck...his stick work as a defenseman is actually incredible to watch...but once he has the puck in his stick..he's abysmal. Staal has a reach and a very high hockey is away from the puck. His feet and speed with the puck in his stick...and I'm talking not just skating but getting off a shot or decision making in general is painfully slow...he's awful.

Imho staal>>>ogara

True about the stick work but I like that O’Gara keeps his feet moving and gets into his man. Staal is like an octopus and even when he pokes away a puck he’s in his back foot and needs someone else to turn the play back the other way. I’m not saying O’Gara is God’s Gift. I just prefer what he brings to what Staal brings. And think he has a bit of upside too.

If staal could skate or pass he’d still be a top 4 guy...

He lost both so he’s a bottom pair guy.
