My grand father had a lot of really bad sayings which are horribly insulting even racist, but this seems to suit JB.
"When god gave out brains you thought he said trains so you caught the caboose"

Here is Benning's plan, wait until all the teams that really want or have to make the playoffs have finished making their trades and when it is too late to get get a good return he says there was no value to be returned. Or "other teams only wanted our good players" DUH! The problem is Benning thinks they are are GUD players.

From Benning saying constantly "we have to wait until the players develop" fine, how long if they don't? Juolevi has had 5 years so far, so what is it, 15 years?

Benning never was part of rebuilding a team.

I wonder if Benning knows "hockey trades" can be made up to the TDL.

IMO, Benning has to put Miller on the block, he is a good player and hates to lose but he is on a team that has got used to not winning and have become European, Professional's. Only work when getting paid and the playoffs teams don't get paid and a player can extend his career. Most of that is bullcrap except the Miller thing.

Blow it up and create a plan and include the fans in the "secret" like no other GM's could possibly have any idea of what that plan might be.

Face the fact that first, this team will be worse next year than this year. So two more years of failing so really load up by trading quality for quality.

First it would be nice to keep all the core but then it is another 5 years not 2 or 3, the team will need 15 players BETTER than they have now.

The bad;

Horvat deserves to get more than one chance at a cup, he has been a great soldier
Trading Horvat will get just about player is thought and the available tools are used.

Boeser is really starting to show an all round game but in this cap his next contract could handcuff the team.
Again Boeser could get a truck load back

Hughes, I know so many here have drank the koolaid, YES he is a very dynamic skater and offensive defenceman, but he can't play defence very well.
But he is great as an attraction during the regular season but not worth what many seem to think.
Just to give an extreme Bobby Orr 120 pts +/- of +54 meaning when on the ice the other team scored 66 times but his team scored 120 times hence the +54, Not one of his good years.
Hughes was and is coveted by some teams and could get a superior return but it would look to the fans like a loss but it won't be.
Miller will get another truck load of picks or prospects.

Pettersson and Demko go no where.
1rst & 2nd round picks are retained unless....

My thought is not simply offering them up to the highest bidder so much as creating deals for specific players, a future core of selected players rather than those that happen to fall into your lap at the draft. That is not to say give away draft picks

Now the highest bidder at the TDL and manufactured deals

Use retention, it saves half the salary paid out and might bump a pick from 3rd to 2nd or a prospect A to AAA.
With retention just about every team becomes a client and the top teams will come a calling.
Collect a few extra picks for expansion draft trades.

Create a list of teams with possible targeted players
Create a cap structure
