What you seem to be ignoring is that Brimsek played in a completely different era, when the NHL had 6 teams, and played a much less rigorous schedule.

The game has completely changed in the time that has passed since Brimsek played in the late 30's and 40's, and so has the training, nutrition, equipment, and other things that go hand in hand with the game. For this reason, I think it's impossible to compare goalies from different eras, but if you are hell-bent on doing it, Thomas has better numbers than Brimsek.
I'm not ignoring it, but If people are going to use phrases like 'greatest of all time' and have it mean something then you have to respect the history behind it. If you don't, you might as well say Erik Karlsson is the greatest defenceman.

There are various ways to compare players across eras, the most logical way is how they dominated their peers and how their achievements compare to other players. Brimsek made the NHL all star team (post season not all star team) in eight consecutive seasons he played; two first team all-star, six second team and two Vezina's. Between 1936-1955 the NHL awarded the Vezina and first team all star based on the lowest GAA, second place wasn't always second best as he is widely considered the best goalie of that era. It's probable that if Brimsek didn't serve he would have made those all star teams for 10 straight years. Brimsek achieved much more than Thomas.
