Kris Russell is overrated. He thinks he is a $6M player, but he is really a $4M player.

Did you read the article? The author speculates as many as eight teams (not including the Ducks) have reached out to Russell but are waiting to see what happens with the surplus of defensemen in Anaheim before tendering their best and final offers to his agent.

Who knows what Murray is trying to do with the ducks defense.

He has the following, assuming that Lindholm. Signs.

Lindholm, Fowler, depres, stoner, Theodore on the left
Vatanen, Manson, bieksa, Montour on the right.

If no moves are made, the ducks could simply out Theodore and Montour in SD to start the year.

Ideally, they would love to move out stoner, which I wonder why they didn't accept less for Anderson in order to package stoner along with him.

In terms of expansion draft, would expect Lindholm, Fowler and vatanen to be protected. What I understand is that a NMC can be waived by the player. If you are the duvks, you go to bieksa and ask him to waive his NMC for the expansion draft so that they can protect that third young defenseman. If you are LV, are you going to grab a 37 year old bieksa over depres or Manson? That is the sell job Murray should make.

Ducks can move Fowler or depres if they get that young forward who can play on the second line.

Are these teams that are in talks with Russell actually talking to the ducks about a trade? You either have that second line forward with a reasonable contract to give up or you don't.

This Russell contract is crazy in terms of how long it is taking. Clearly his agent misjudged the market and now Russell is waiting for a deal in mid September. This is likely a short term deal for him.
