I disagree that a D back is necessary, if they don't rake cap back, Benning would use the freed up space to sign a guy like Hamonic or trade for someone.

Bruins have to shed a bit if salary, so how about Wagner for the 4th line and a Clifton (RD) and a late pick.

Wagner is signed for this and next year at 1,350,000 and Clifton at 1 million for the next 2 yrs.

Schmidt is at 5,950,000. That leaves the Canucks cap hit reduced by 3.6 million.

Bruins can bring up Brady Lyle for the bottom pairing dee (6'3" 210 lbs, can put up points)

Lyle makes 800,000 so Bruins end up adding 4.4 million on the cap with him and Scmidt - minus Wags and Cliffy.

Move out Moore for a pick when he is healthy and recoup 2.75 million.

Or take Zboril and Wagner or just one of them and a pick.

Where is the source that he vetoed the trade? Vancouver would have been overjoyed if any team offered anything close to two 2nds.

Unless 50% is retained and the price is one pick, if that... no teams should be interested.

Someone posted it in the Dillon to Winnipeg thread, apparently Schmidt was their first target and he didn't want to go there.

Mayfield? What would the canucks have to add?

Given Mayfield's caphit for the next 2 years it would be hard for us to trade him, he balances out the more expensive contracts. All that being said if we were to make a trade you would have to take on Komarov's and Hickey's caphits(5.5M combined for 1 more year)

Benning needs that cap for Pettersson. He won't cost much IMO. Time sensitive deal.
Vancouver can go 10% over the cap and they still have about $24.5 million to work with. The Schmidt trade just adds to that cap space or helps fill a hole. Or both! They are fine.

Is Lyle NHL ready? Didn't he just sign last year, haven't followed his progression, but still seems early considering he was in juniors a year and a half ago (if I am remembering time correctly)
