about to leave for this blind date. i only call it blind date because i dont remember what she looks like. if im not satisfied do i still pay? or ask her to pay her share?

It's a first date. You always pay on the first date.

Pretty interesting 11 page story about the filming of "The Canyons" which starred Lindsay Lohan and the pornstar James Deen.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/13/m...hen-you-cast-lindsay-lohan-in-your-movie.html

I think I know which one of them I take more seriously as an actor.

Also not a whack job trying to go out and take 20 others with him, but instead a bullying victim trying to get even. This story doesn't fit the agenda at all. Hell some people might even sympathize with the kid.

any 'agenda' that is solely focused on guns, and not the bigger picture (culture, mental healthcare, etc) will go absolutely nowhere. im not relieved that only 1 or 2 may die from this, im sickened that another high schooler, with his entire life ahead of him, chose this path and harmed so many others. whatever, not interested in talking about this **** anymore. just too depressing.

so, here's this

so a little offbeat for HF but you know how the media always makes a big deal about players who go out before a game and visualize what they're going to do in the game as part of their pre-game ritual? Probably more than a few of us think that's sorta odd or even question if it really works, but I stumbled on this after seeing someone post a related link on FB about jazz piano. It deals with music, but I see many parallels between playing team sports and playing music (especially jazz where you react on the fly to those you're playing with).

The mind's eye and ear and all that... hearing and seeing it before you do it has been well established in music theory. Validates the athletic visualization to a degree.

Some might find this interesting and even useful.

you play golf, right? ok well, heres a tip I learned that improved my putting DRASTICALLY.
for long putts- imagine the hole as a barrel . this is done to get the ball close to the hole so you can two putt.
for short putts- no change.

now, heres the kicker. in each of those scenarios, while youre doing your practice putts…on the very last practice one before you hit the ball, imagine you hit the ball. follow the invisible “ball†with your eyes as it moves towards the ‘barrel’ or cup, depending, and imagine it dropping. then step right up and putt.

it sounds so stupid, but my 3-putts have gone down to maybe 1 or 2 per round. so yes, I definitely believe it helps in certain cases. hockey can have a million different variables going on, so I’ve never understood why Capt’n Empty Net did it before each game, but in things like music and golf? BIG difference

That is amazing

cats, in general, are amazing. i never thought i'd say this..but to me, cats trump dogs because of all the insane **** they do, for no reason whatsoever, while maintaining a semblance of intelligence somehow. they are nature's ****show

Each position has a few common situations they face each game outside the highly unusual plays. Defense deals with an attacker going to the outside or breaking to the back door, center with the faceoffs, wingers taking the puck wide or splitting the middle, or taking the one timer on the PP, etc... so I can see how they can mentally prepare for those common events.

As for golf, my routine uses that approach pretty much now. I stand back from the ball or marker while others get up on the green or make the longer putts and I look at the spot like I would a drive before approaching the ball. I look at how hard I think I need to putt to get the ball that distance and practice that back and forth amount of swing and repeat it to form a quick muscle memory of how hard I want to putt. At the same time, I'm looking for that line to the edges of the cup. I don't really look at a big bucket hole, but both edges and usually the read jumps out to me there as which side is "safe" and which miss-hit could run away from the hole. Then when I get up to the ball it's a matter of imagining that point and line I picked and visualizing it again from over the ball and sometimes I see something that changes it dramatically and I change the line but usually it's just a matter of repeating that strength of putt, and squaring the elbows with the shoulder and hands in a pentagon shape and hitting the line I selected.

Then I go up and tap in for the double bogey. ;)

But yes, visualization certainly is a part of the [sober] golf game.

sounds like a plan. i always take a few steps back to look at the slope, but i can never tell whether its going left or right. im horrible at that. so i step back, pretend to see something, go 'hmmmm' and make a guess.

My cats live with my dad. I miss them. I've got a picture of one sitting in a pop tarts box that gets me every time.
