I went away to the Catskills for the weekend with some buddies. We rented this awesome cabin off AirBnb in the middle of the woods with no neighbors and a private pool and grill. We get there and can't get in. After four hours on the phone with AirBnb, it turns out that they canceled the reservation (That we made a month ago) that day and never told us.

We ended up in a farmhouse like thirty minutes from there that was also pretty great but no pool. At least I got to drink a lot.

No offense, but no it isn't.

I'm glad NSP is pleased and had a great vaca anyway, but free + a credit is standard in the hotel industry for a comparable situation.

I am a chronic user of Airbnb, but I'd also start paying the upcharge for proper hotels if I was treated this way.

You get what you pay for.

Again, I personally have never had a poor experience with Airbnb, but a substandard effort - such as the one described - on their part would have me calling Starwood, rci, whoever, immediately after f'ing with my trip like that.

4 hours, no pool, and a 50% off coupon for a property that wasn't even being rented? That's trash service any way you slice it.

Pay the extra and put them on blast about it.
