RIP Tom Petty

OMG, how horrible. One of my favorites I just saw him at The Rock a couple months back and he seemed healthy and full of life. He'd noticeably gained some weight, but he was really moving around the stage with energy.

Unfortunately, no. And my wife's student loans don't go down proportionally. So we can't even entertain moving anytime soon.

I cant speak to the west, but a lot of places in the east have nearly caught up to New Jersey in terms of pay scale.

And financially, you really need to consider cost-of-living, as the variance might not be as bad as you think.

Lets say you get paid $20k more salary in New Jersey as an example, well, your property taxes might be $8k higher here, so just that expense alone nearly eats up half of the difference. And your state income tax (if you have one where you move to) will almost certainly be lower, so there's maybe another grand or so. Car insurance will likely be 1/2 as much, etc...... If you put all these things into an Excel spreadsheet, it's quite possible it wont be as dramatic as you might think.

Saw him as well this summer and so glad I did, he put on fantastic show. Tom Petty has always been one of my favorite musicians so this is a tough one to stomach.

I got/still sometimes get the same thing, but mostly because I always tried to dress sort-of fashionable and also a few more feminine traits (An aptitude for writing poetry, an appreciation of aromas, etc). I don't think metrosexual has been a "thing" for a few years, though. Think it peaked with "Queer Eye" shows and stuff.

I noticed in the profile that you can select whatever gender you want, and more than one. So I am male, female, metrosexual, and "none of your business". I am basically a formless void that exists to rant on a hockey message board. It's nice.

Still waiting for the "Turtles" addition..... :neener:

Tom Petty is not dead yet. Reports from the hospital were incorrect.

Very odd the way this was incorrectly reported. Makes me wonder if they're keeping him alive until next of kin can arrive & pay final respects. Any way you slice it, it's a HIPPA violation and a half.

Is it just..me or did they just add that red border to the top of posts??

Something changed because my stylish theme all of a sudden has every other post in a thread white and I can't find anywhere in the code how to fix it. It sucks because I finally had it just the way I wanted it. Now when I scroll the replies go from white to dark grey. It feels like I'm gonna have a seizure.

Yeah I had the same thing, I just took off the dark theme. The white looks a bit nicer now with the modest changes.

Tom Petty is the king of creepy music videos. Don't Come Around Here No More. Alice In Wonderland themed, where Alice becomes a cake and everyone is eating her at the end. Free Fallin was another weird one, though much more subtly. Tom Petty watching a girl from a roof. You Got Lucky was another weird video, from what I remember.

How'd you miss, Mary Jane's Last Dance?

It's literally a music video about necrophilia.

Opens with a bunch of bodies in a morgue, and ends with him disposing of the body he steals from the morgue.

Creepiest video ever.

Haha I did miss it! That was actually the first time I ever saw that one. I had a friend tell me a few years ago, how creepy it was, when we were talking about his videos and I rattled off the list of creepy ones. There was also one other one that I remember being a real oddity, I can't remember which one. I think it's one with some old man in it?

That was the first time I ever watched this one. I'm familiar with the song, but I don't think I watched any MTV or VH1 from the early 90's (maybe even 89) until around 2000. Outside of Beavis And Butthead when that was on. Was that Kim Basinger? A mortician Tom Petty, falling in love with Kim Basinger's corpse, then taking her home with him. Then deciding by the end of the video, he no longer wanted her and dumped her in the ocean. Then she opens her eyes and appears to still be alive. That's a real weird one.

I remember watching VH1 in the early 00's, when they did those ''Behind the music'' specials, which I actually enjoyed watching. Even when they were on bands that I couldn't stand.

Blast from the past! I haven’t thought about that Alice in Wonderland video since it probably first came out. Who was the artist that would use the big overweight humans that almost looked like claymation or cgi for their time but I’m fairly confident it was actual practical effects and makeup. I believe they used these same people over multiple videos but it always reminds me of the Killer Clowns from Mars movie.

Who do you guys use for auto insurance? My policy with Liberty Mutual just went up over 30% and they said it's just because of more claims in Nj. No tickets, claims, accidents, nothing on my behalf. Looking for cheaper premiums, Geico sent me a quote so far that I'm comfortable with.

I use Plymouth Rock. So far they've treated me pretty well and my monthly payments aren't too high. I haven't actively gone out to see how they compare to other companies in a while though.

If I need something repaired my deductible is $500, and as long as you get a police report you're almost guaranteed to get that back if you get hit by someone. The only time I didn't get it back was when there was a massive piece of metal sitting in the fast lane of 287 and I couldn't get out of the way in time so I hit it going 80 lol.

Edit: I've had to put in two claims in the last two years. One for that thing on 287 and I got rear ended in March. Neither time did my rate go up so I'm pretty happy with them

Plymouth Rock. I switched to them 2 years ago and went from $190 a month to $116. You can go with Teacher's by Plymouth Rock if you're a teacher. It's even less expensive. Here are both the plans:

Appreciate that. Ran a quote for them online and they're $4 more a month than Geico for the same coverage but they've got Prudential Center connections and stuff. I probably wouldn't ever really take advantage of that but if I did it's probably worth the extra $4 a month. Going to look at a few more places and go from there. Such a weird industry the insurance industry is. Same coverages for same vehicle has such a drastic difference, same for home owners too.
