I'm not opposed to watching despite how awful SS1 was but did they at least tone down the f***ing soundtrack? The original used so many overused tunes we've all heard efore. THERE ISSSS A HOUSE IN NEW ORELANNNNNS THEY CALLL THE RISING SUNNNNN

yeah we heard this before

CAUSE IT FEELS SO EMPTY WITHOUT ME NOW THIS LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR ME

This is not some 90's flick cool it with the f***ing overused songs

A few over used songs and definitely some really lyrically on the nose choices (song about prison over scenes of prison, song about dead friends over scenes of dead friends) but overall a better soundtrack

Things I liked.
-Idris Elba >>> Will Smith
-King Shark is funny
-Rat Catcher 2 is likable.
-Bloodsport's frank discussion his daughter.

Things I didn't like.
-Amanda Waller goes way overboard on the amorality and is a cartoon villain.
-Harley Quinn kills her boyfriend because he want to kill kids, yet gushes over Weasel who eats kids.
-The music choices were terrible.
-The film is meant to be Gunn's f-you to the MCU and has no heart so when characters are killed there's no shock or feeling of any kind. It's just murder porn.

I liked the first Suicide Squad film better which isn't saying much.

Puerile. I know it's supposed to be immature, but come on. No big laughs for me and it just seemed like this is what 5th grade kids think is edgy. None of the action scenes will stick with me, and they fell back on the most overused cliche in modern action movies of "America is actually the bad guy???"

If you think trite dick jokes and overexposed shots of characters walking in slow mo towards the camera (played straight, not ironically) is cool, then yeah, watch this movie. Otherwise just stick to the MCU if you want quality comic book movies.

I loved it and i absolutely can’t stand comic book movies that much

like someone sorta said above though, a lot of the profanity and jokes seem like something grade school kids think are badass and the movies use of the F bomb came off as “teehee, look, we said f***!”

I agree with a lot you're saying while disagreeing on some. First my review:

Not as good as I expected, still much better than the first one: 8/10. Unfortunately way too much was spoiled in the trailers, which made so many plot points predictable. Gunn really knows how to make these characters human or humane and make you care for them. I did not like BOP, but I think I liked Harley Quinn more in this. I did not care much about Polka Dot Man. Cena became irritating the longer he was on, which is somehow fitting for his wrestling career. Idris Elba carried the movie. The gore got a little too repetitive at the end, to such a degree that it almost began to take me out of the movie. Not as good as GOTG to me, but still enjoyable.

I thought some music choices were better than in the first but some were meh and too on the nose. It's good that there was less. Amanda Waller went too overboard, she wasn't this crazy in the animated stuff I've seen.

Oh yeah, Assault On Arkham is still the best Suicide Squad film for me.

Amazing that the dialogue was the only bad part of the film. I genuinely enjoyed the characters and the action.

DC still can’t hold a candle to Marvel, though. Hell, they’re still behind the Fox movies too.

Just give us a Harley film without a team up. That’s what we want.

James Gunn is doing movies for both marvel and dc? He still shows as the writer for gotg3 on IMDb. What am I missing?

TSS is getting a lot of love and thumbs up from most reviews I've read, even from serious movie critics. Warner Media may wind up kicking itself for letting this one go straight to streaming in the US. Although they might consider this a loss leader to drive people to HBO Max, which they own. Might be why they let Gunn do an R-rated feature, they weren't concerned about losing ticket sales at the box office. Cena can't act but he makes a great heel from his wrestling experience and looks like he is getting an HBO series as the Peacemaker character. Both Margot Robbie and Idris Elba are getting good marks for their portrayals as are the large group of secondary characters in the film. Even Stallone is getting good reviews as the voice of The Shark. Most critics like how the Director, James Gunn, is seemingly giving the middle finger to Hollywood (the Starfish is symbolic of the Hollywood star system).

Well let's just say it's not getting quite the same numbers on torrent sites as Black Widow but fairly high. We also found that HBO Max isn't going to open here in Finland until maybe early next year.

Probably after all the backlash Disney got for firing him, bringing him back on with a non-compete clause in the contract wouldn't be a good look.

Or Gunn was brought on to direct this one before Disney brought him back for GOTG3

I would think even with good reviews, wider audiences are less trusting of the DCU so they're probably not in as much of a hurry to check this one out yet. Especially with how the last Suicide Squad ended up.

Yeah another downside of direct-to-streaming is the good copy made available to bit-torrents worldwide (as opposed to lousy CAM versions). That can't be helpful to their box office numbers globally. It's the reason why ScarJo is suing Disney for going the streaming route directly (she lost a fair amount from her contract that gave her a cut of receipts). If Robbie and Elba aren't complaing about Warner's streaming strategy, then they must have got all their money up front. Suicide Squad looks like the surprise fun movie of the Summer.

This was a fun movie for sure. Some stuff worked, others were ok. Poka-dot was one weird ass character . Some next level violence for sure. Reminded me a lot of the first Kingsman , the way the fight scenes were played out. Harley put a new spin on the "love'm and leave'm" relationship for sure.

I think ScarJo is suing more for Covid shutting theaters where she would've made most of her money and Disney putting it out on streaming to get some money back. There is no big international box office for her to profit by. It's pulled in 60 mil alone with the streaming services. There's no way it's going to pull those numbers in with so many theaters closed had it not been available on Disney. She was paid very well , and is pissed that she won't make more.

Covid played a bigger part in her cut being smaller and of course the movie not getting a China release. Premier Access played a smaller part. Her complaint claims the movie would have made a billion without the PA, while completely ignoring those two factors I mentioned.

Yeah, I think you’re missing the point here. Harley didn’t kill him because she has a soft spot for kids, she killed him because he reminded her of The Joker.

Nah, I get the "reminded her of the Joker" thing. :)

I was just pointing out the bad writing. :thumbu:
