This just pissed me off. We could've had him for ~5m as it were.

Bergevin plays hardball with Subban and Markov and doles out 4 year extensions to statistically mediocre coaches and 8m contracts to rat-faced has-beens willy nilly.

...and maybe after signing that big deal he never becomes the player he is today and stays at 11-12 level.

He was a play-driving, elite defenseman in the peer group of Shea Weber in 11-12. It's not like he went from del Zotto to Doughty between then and now, he's always been a world-class D.

He made huge strides at both ends of the ice in 2013(lock out year). He wasn't anything close to a Norris or Team Canada guy in 11-12.

Saying he was Weber's level is bit pushing it. Though, fact remains that Subban was a legit Top 3 D on any team and MB gave him a contract like he wasn't sure if he was a Top 4 D.

Therrien's contract

Therrien's new contract is actually 3 years with a club option for year 4. Still hate it

He was already taking on top competition and getting results similar to Weber's without Ryan Suter to help out. The big difference was really in ice time.

Do it and give him the C.

7.6 x 8 years the jersey discount.

1.1M less than Crosby, not too bad!

This has got to be a joke lol.

If he wanted $45m over 7 years he'd be signed already.

Edit: didn't see that he wants > $45m. The Score needs clicks yes?

Anything less than 8 is a steal. If he's looking at 6.5 or 7 mil we'd be absolutely insane not to lock him up for 8 years. It will be a hometown discount if he does less than 8 mil per.

anything less than 8 is gravy.

big time.

If it's less than 7 I will hardly enjoy it because I'll still have to hear about how stupid the bridge deal was.

He was already a complete game (more PK time/tougher ES minutes) top pairing D in his 3rd NHL season. Sure he had lower shooting accuracy and no good D partner on the point for additional PP points like a healthy Markov, but it's pretty unrealistic to suggest he wouldn't improve from the age of 23 with a larger sum of money. I guess there's that mythical character of Subban that was fixed by Therrien. Might as well not sign him, maybe he turns into Redden.
