It will be hard to top the we don't need you game, the return of Judas. But man, April 1 is not far away. How do you top 4-0, and 6-1 over the Laffs this year?

Montreal doesn't have an easy run of games, neither does Carolina. Columbus might be able to squeak in if they can get their shit together.

Toronto
We may well have four frickin’ Metro teams with a hundred points this year. Lovely.

EDIT: four hundred-pointers would be the third such time in four years; this group of teams had four hundred-pointers in 2011-12 during the six-division era as well. The Metro is baseball’s AL East.

If the playoffs started today we would be playing Toronto?? Oh how I long to see our Islanders shaking hands with JT as we move on to the 2nd round!

How is anyone a big enough fan of the Islanders to be on a forum about it but not understand the playoff format at this point? I'm honestly asking anyone who doesn't know what the format is, because it's been this way long enough now for people to already know it and I've seen far too many people not know what it is this year. It's been this way since 2013-14...

The Islanders would play Pittsburgh if the playoffs started today.

Yeah, it seems NYI are playing the Pens one way or the other. If the Canes continue to reek havoc like a cat 5, or NYI loses out, its TB or WSH. Likely, NYI will be playing the Pens; would prefer home ice.

Don’t think they stand a chance (v Pens). Murray raises his game in the playoffs; there’s just too much talent to ‘outwork.’

This upcoming home and home for Carolina and Washington is going to be crucial in deciding who ends up where. It has the potential to be a massive swing.

Predicted Matchups:

TBL vs MTL
BOS vs TML

WSH vs CAR
NYI vs PIT

If Columbus wins out. They would have 100pts. NYI max would 106 (loss in OT to CBJ). MTL max would drop to 99 (loss in OT to CBJ). Their max ROW can be 47. They will win all ROW tiebreakers most likely. No other team that would affect the Isles placement is involved. They played BOS, they are locked in 2/3 Atlantic.

If Montreal wins out. CBJ Max would drop to 99 (OT loss to MTL). WSH max would drop to 107 (OT loss to MTL). TML max would drop to 107 (OT loss to MTL).

So, the Islanders magic number is actually 5, due to the CBJ/MTL game. If that game isn't a 3-pt game, the Islander magic number is 4.

If Carolina wins out, they end up with 105. Washington's max would drop to 106 (two OT losses to CAR). PIT's max would drop to 104 (OT loss to CAR). TML's max drop to 107.

If Pittsburgh wins out, they end up with 105. CAR's max drops to 104. PIT ends with DET, DET, NYR. Ugh.

I think we gotta root for the Caps.

As much as 1st place would be nice to play for (and we can if WE keep winning), just making the playoffs needs to be the goal and we need Carolina out of our "danger zone" ASAP.

If I had to guess, I think they and WAS will split the series, but CAR could actually come out with 3 points in the process.

As for us, we'd naturally like to see the team gain momentum heading into the playoffs. I think we might see a downtrodden Buffalo and a Winnipeg that is more interested in giving some of its key guys a rest.

Tuesday against Columbus will be TOUGH.

I think there'll be a bit of a revenge factor when we play in Toronto, and they'll want to prove to themselves that they can beat this Islander team.

Florida is a team we'll likely have problems with, 'cause like, we usually do, and they have an explosive offense.

The last game against Washington is only really important if it's actually about 1st place overall or i.e. home-ice advantage.

I predict 6 points in the last 6 games.

Dude we could lose out and still make the playoffs. I'm rooting for the Canes.

Your snarky attitude is rather unnecessary. I briefly looked at the standings and in my head guessed we would be the 4 seed and they would be the 5 seed. Relax. Also notice that I put a QUESTION MARK next to Toronto . . . .

From NHL.com " . . . The teams finishing second and third in each division will meet in the First Round within the bracket headed by their respective division winners. . . . . "

Whaddya know. . . you are clearly a better man than I. I can only wish to attain your level of intellectual prowess. Get a grip. But hey . . . Go Islanders, right?

I was sincerely asking, because you're not the only person on here who wasn't aware of the playoff situation. It's just bizarre to me that a hardcore fan, and I consider just about everyone willing to sign up for a forum dedicated to a sport/team a hardcore fan, wouldn't know something so basic as what the playoff format is after six years of the format. Is it just the old habits type of thing?

Sometimes the toughest opponents in the last few games are non-playoff teams. Nothing to lose. Nothing to save it for. Playing for contracts. Etc, etc..

Plus the Pens have a tendency to play down to their opponent. So there's as likely a chance of them playing well against the Lightning or Bruins as there is against Rangers, Detroit or Ottawa.

Isles do the same, I think we have 3 playoff teams and 3 non playoff teams the rest of the way and could easily see a 2-0-1 record vs playoff teams and 1-2 record vs non playoff.
