Worst 5 on 5 shots for and against per 60 minutes differential in NHL and what place they are in the NHL standings.

2012/2013:
1. TOR: 27.1 33.2 [-6.1] = 7th (? the following season)
2. EDM: 27.2 32.1 [-4.9] = 22nd
3. CBJ: 25.0 29.7 [-4.7] = 20th
4. BUF: 28.1 32.3 [-4.2] = 23rd
5. DAL: 26.5 29.8 [-3.3] = 19th

2011/2012:
1. MIN: 25.8 30.8 [-5.0] = 24th
2. CGY: 27 30.4 [-3.4] = 17th
3. EDM: 26.9 30.2 [-3.3] = 29th
4. NSH: 27.4 30.5 [-3.1] = 5th (24th the following season)
5. CBJ: 28.2 31.2 [-3.0] = 30th

2010/2011:
1. MIN: 25.2 31.5 [-6.3] = 21st
2. ANA: 26.8 31.4 [-4.6] = 9th (25th the following season)
3. EDM: 26.1 30.5 [-4.4] = 30th
4. DAL: 26 29.8 [-3.8] = 16th
5. TOR: 27.9 31.4 [-3.5] = 22nd

2009/2010:
1. FLA: 27.5 33.5 [-6.0] = 28th
2. EDM: 28.2 32.8 [-4.6] = 30th
3. MTL: 26.9 31 [-4.1] = 19th
4. COL: 27.4 31.3 [-3.9] = 12th (29th the following season)
5. ANA: 28.7 32.3 [-3.6] = 17th

On the other hand, the Habs are 3rd in the league...behind the Blackhawks and Penguins.

...but we are the bubble that's about to burst.

Hope the Bruins fall apart before the playoffs.

I wish I could win a million dollars...

I don't want to end up in the basement, though.

All that leafs paraphernalia already strung up would take too long to take down.

I understand the euphoria and excitement in Leaf land about the impending playoffs. I do not understand how sure some guys are that they'll crush MTL.

You don't expect your team to crush anyone in the playoffs, it's the playoffs. MTL beat Boston 8 straight in the regular season and it took 7 games to eliminate them. TOR and MTL have a blow out each and an ugly game that was close. Hardly cause for cockiness.

They also beat Philadelphia 4 times in regular season and lost in 5.

So, they were a combined 12-0-0 against Flyers/ Boston in the regular season.

In the playoffs :5-7-0.

It's why people continuously say regular season isn't the same as playoffs.

There are more sophisticated ways of measuring this kind of thing but the principle is sound.

For whatever reason, success for teams that get consistently outshot doesn't last while success based on outshooting lingers.

Right now, Caryle looks like he's the Leafs' Carboneau. A mirage of perceived competence. It'll be hilarious if they lose talent like Grabrovski and Gardiner because he ran them out of town.

Right on the spot. I sure hope Leafs players have the same kind of overconfidence but I doubt it. You never know tho since they don't seem to have any playoff leaders..

I think it'll go Habs in 6.

I would absolutely love to face the leafs in the playoffs. As much as some injuries might happen, I'm not expecting this Habs team to march to the cup. It's a measuring stick year for us IMO. A series win against the Leafs would be a beautiful consolation prize this year. I'm confident Montreal will take it to them. We're way better coached and more balanced than them.
Imagine watching PK shut down Kadri every night! Soooo much gloating potential for us!

I don't equate the Leafs team as highly mature and rational. I mean Phaneuf the drunken karaoke machine, Lupul cry to the media that Subban is disrespectful, and Hannibal Grabovski are their leaders!

Although we have Gionta I can't win a puck battle along the boards to save my life, with the C so who knows?!

That's because we havn't been in the playoffs in the modern era and have no memories of it since Jeremy Roenik scoring in game 6 OT 9 YEARS AGO. What time of idea could any Leafs fan possibly remember from that time period about how the playoffs were?

Notice how Carlyle's teams are on these lists 3 of the 4 times?

It's the way his system is, the Leafs might get out shot, but they are terrible shots in general. There have only been a handful of games where the Leafs were out-chanced by their opponents.

Watching the Leafs march out Orr and McClaren for regular shifts would be fun as well.

That would be true if Subban's corsi stats didn't indicate he'd more likely play against the 3rd line than the second :sarcasm:

Wow what a hater.

If you noticed, I poked fun at Gionta as well.

Maybe they should have a battle of the pressboxes!

Tomas please don't get hurt getting your nachos Kaberle, Yannick le jeune Vebber vs. Jake the prodigal healthy scratch Gardiner and Mike extra 250k to play in the AHL Komisarek!

I thought Leaf fans ruled statistics invalid when they were used to point out how unsustainable Kadri's production is. Can't have it both ways guys.

I dream of seeing them getting exploited by the speed and intensity of the NHL playoffs.

hahaha. Of course!
Another reason I would look forward to this series is that every fan base will be watching. Which will surely put myths like this to rest once and for all!

I'd like to win the division TBH though. Can't discount the fact that you could be playing Washington or Boston in the 2nd round if you get through and home ice is huge. Also the massive butthurt from CBC, TSN and sportsnet would be hilarious when they don't get their dream "trash on the Habs" match up.

Bruins board having another meltdown, apparently the YETI might not be coming after-all as the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation is refusing to approve the transaction since they want the YETI for their WC team.

I wondered about that, since they apparently vetoed other, similar transfers.

I almost feel bad for them, Soderberg has become more of a legend than a hockey player. He's kind of like their Emelin, except, you know, Emelin finally came over.

Edit: nevermind, just checked out their board's reaction. "#greasetheswedes"? "OK fine, let's go injure Lundqvist then"? Yeesh...

By the people who actually do count the Leafs scoring chances for and against.

They out perform their shots data in terms of scoring chances but they are still in the red. If you are going to arguing based on scoring chances then you must confront the fact that they say the Leafs are a below average team 5 on 5 absent goaltending.

Scoring chance data also show that Subban is outchancing the bejebus out of the top level opponents he started facing this season in the begining of March. He's the rightful Norris candidate, Phaneuf is a decent top pairing defender being dragged down by a retrograde coach that insists on saddling him with AHLers.

Not sure if serious.

Subban's offensive totals, scoring chances for vs. against, possession, +/- show that he is a phenomenal player. Therrien might not be using him as a #1D because Markov is there, but Subban is surely capable as seen last season.

But, hey, I guess we'll see in the playoffs.
