Mariota just got sacked again.

Seriously though. Tannehill may not be a true upgrade but we know where this ends with Mariota. Time to try something else. Or maybe we just keep letting the ship sink and try QB draft roulette again. Though with Robinson picking I'm not sure that leads us anywhere short of another 5 years of misery.

Aloha Marcus, it's been swell.
Mariota’s problems dictate the game plan. Those being the inability to throw downfield and an inability to spot secondary receivers. So, it’s screens and 5-10 yard passes. Titans have had about 100 or so receivers since Mariota arrived. All of them cannot be bad receivers. Henry is a very good runner but the D is all bunched up close because of the inability to throw downfield. What is the offensive coordinator supposed to do? He goes with what the QB can do. But the Ds know the Titans problems. It simply isn’t working.

Looks like we can put the UCF bull**** to rest early this season. Thanks Pitt! :thumbu:

That being said the College Football playoff should expand to 8 so teams like UCF actually get a shot plus conference championship games mean automatic bids. 5 conference champions (SEC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC 12, ACC) plus 3 at large bids.

I doubt it would change much, honestly. Other 3 spots would go to SEC2, then Big 10 2 or Big 12 2, and then the likes of UCF and Boise St. would fight for the last against the odd man out of that group + SEC3 (most likely) and Notre Dame.

Fun fact: historically, the conference that has had the most teams in the top-8 at the end of the year has been the Big 10, followed by the SEC - indeed, the B1G has never not had at least two teams in the top-8 at final ranking time. After that... well, it depends on whether or not you opt to count Notre Dame as independent (which they nominally are) or as an ACC member (which they are in every other sport, and against whom they play five games every year as though they were a conference member). If Notre Dame is independent, it's the Big 12; otherwise, it's the ACC.

2014:
SEC: 2 (#1 Alabama, #6 Mississippi State)
B1G: 2 (#4 Ohio State, #8 Michigan State)
Big12: 2 (#5 Baylor, #6 TCU)
Pac12: 1 (Oregon #2)
ACC: 1 (Florida State #3)

2015:
B1G: 3 (#3 Michigan State, #5 Iowa, #7 Ohio State)
ACC: 1 (#1 Clemson)
SEC: 1 (#2 Alabama)
Big12: 1 (#4 Oklahoma)
Pac12: 1 (#6 Stanford)
"Independent": #8 Notre Dame

2016:
B1G: 4 (#3 Ohio State, #5 Penn State, #6 Michigan, #8 Wisconsin)
SEC: 1 (#1 Alabama)
ACC: 1 (#2 Clemson)
Pac12: 1 (#4 Washington)
Big12: 1 (#7 Oklahoma)

2017:
SEC: 3 (#3 Georgia, #4 Alabama, #7 Auburn)
B1G: 2 (#5 Ohio State, #6 Wisconsin)
ACC: 1 (#1 Clemson)
Big12: 1 (#2 Oklahoma)
Pac12: 1 (#8 USC)

2018:

B1G: 2 (#6 Ohio State, #7 Michigan)
ACC: 1 (#2 Clemson)
"Independent": #3 Notre Dame
Big12: 1 (#4 Oklahoma)
Everyone Else: 1 (#8 UCF)

Total team appearances:
B1G: 13
SEC: 9
Big12: 6
ACC: 5
Pac12: 4
Notre Dame: 2
Others: 1

I see Ohio State and Alabama on your list 5 times each. Oklahoma and Clemson 4 times. All other teams seem to be 1 or 2 times.

Yeah; tells you something about who the major powers have really been.

I suspect this year is going to end with those four in the top 8 plus Georgia, LSU, and Wisconsin. Not sure who team #8 will be, but I suspect USC is going to end up winning the Pac-12, so there's that.

Frankly if they go to an 8 team format I think 2 slots need to be reserved for 2 non power 5 teams per year as long as they meet certain stipulations. The stipulations would be in place so that you dont end up with a 2 or 3 loss non-power 5 just because there is a spot.

Whose brilliant idea was it to make the UT-UGA game primetime ? Particularly when Ohio State - Michigan State is sitting right there.

Game times are decided by the networks and their pecking order with the conferences.

The B1G also loves their noon kickoffs for whatever reason.
