What will the PP look like? Jarmo specifically mentioned PP with both Voracek and Boqvist.

Im honestly very excited about whats coming.

This will be a very different team and a new coach, not a contender or even a bubble playoffs of course but clearing out the closet to give birth to something new isnt the worst development of them all

Offer him 8.2 for 7. Still leaves us with a 1st next year. Puts Vancouver in a very bad situation. Only costs us 2022 1st, 2nd, 3rd
RFA compensation is determined by as many as 5 years IIRC. So it would be $57.4 M/5 = 11.48 which would be 4 firsts

We might need to reassess the goaltending situation further if both of them decide to walk for an outright starting job elsewhere.

We’ve seen both of these guys struggle without regular playing time and we’ve seen both have very good stretches when they have regular playing time. They eventually need to sh*t or get off the pot here.

Not trying to be a downer but I saw this a team get weaker on defense/PK - possibly stronger on PP but still nothing addressing our center weakness. I know we selected 2 centers but nothing coming on that front for 2-3 years. So while I am happy they dealt with the Seth distraction and replenish our prospect pool. All we have is some window dressing and on paper some better offense.

I hope we make some moves in FA or trades and don’t try to piece mail our Center position again this year. I am not asking for a Jack Eichel (bonafide 1C) but someone who is proven at that position.

Okay maybe I don’t understand on my front. I thought is was as easy as listed below.
  • An offer sheet consists of 7 compensation tiers.
  • Compensation to the receiving club is made up entirely of draft picks.
  • The draft picks must available in the nearest entry draft, unless the compensation requires two or more draft picks in the same round: an extra year can be used to for compensation for these picks (if two 1st round picks are required, the club must have two 1st round picks available in the next three drafts)
  • Compensation is determined by the annual average (AAV) outlined in the offer made by submitting club.
  • The AAV for an offer sheet, which determines the compensation required, is derived by dividing the total contract value amount by the lesser of:
    • number of years offered, or
    • five (5) years
  • The AAV thresholds are readjusted each season, and is based on the average league salary for that season.
  • An offer sheet cannot be greater than 7 years in length.
  • See the Offer Sheet FAQ for additional information.

i think this is the right move. I never understood the burning desire to trade one of these guys just for the sake of trading. Seemed like another Portzline fantasy.

Kivi would have been a good young developing backup, and presumably Korpi and Elvis hold good value in the market since both are considered to be starters. CBJ will not be able to sign both Elvis and Korpi long-term, so it would have been smart business to move one to speed up the rebuild.

Now the situation is not as clear anymore, but i do still hope they manage to get some assets on deadline, if not earlier

Bolded is where this caveat is.

$8.2 M x 7 years = $57.4 M. Since this stipulation says the lesser of the years offered (7) and 5 years, the total money is divided by 5 which gives an AAV of $11.48 M

Minimum after Kivi`s death it would be strange so that Tarasov would be the number two if he needs to play. At least a parto of the season. Then we`ll see if he`s ready to play in NHL.

In year's past, the draft picks had to be your own draft picks, not ones you've acquired from other team that would have lower value. I can't determine whether that's still the case.

Anyone else would've liked to see Jarmo flip one of the 1sts for Reinhart? Would've been a perfect fit.

Ahh - thank you - so we want to offer 5 year term which would lower the AAV

I don’t think they hold great value on the current market. The goalie market is atrocious right now. So much so that Edmonton resigned their own 39 year old guy instead of trading for or signing one . I’d rather hang on to them both, than trade one for future considerations and sign someone like McBackup who would be almost a guaranteed loss when you’re forced to play them.

That's still an easy match for Vancouver.

Anything under $10m is. Yes it would force them to dump some good players, guys like J.T. Miller, but teams in cap trouble don't start by letting go of their best players. We'd have to go to a more absurd number, like $11m or something, to have a chance of them passing on the match.

I've already prepared to lose a lot next year, so I wouldn't personally really mind a tank commander McBackup, but I get your point of view.

Anyways, I guess my main point was that these talks made sense and were more prevalent when there was no need to hire McBackup because we had Kivi.
