he was rumored to go top 10 so not off the board. People were shocked because we didn't need a goalie at the time.

David Fischer was more off the board at the time despite being a 6'5 smooth skating puck moving defensemen.

Top 10 is not top 5. It was a shock. No one expected it regardless of needs, which is a stupid way to draft anyway because you never know what your needs will be.

BTW here's HF's mock draft back then :
Hockey's Future 2005 Staff Mock Draft - Hockey's Future

Price went #19, so it was a surprise.

It's as if with that #4 pick we got Farabee or Hayton.

Yes, it was a shock. There is a video of the CBJ staff's response to the news that they were selecting Price. It was ''are you shitting you me?''

The 2018 Draft was a wild one for the Montreal Canadiens who used the 4th overall pick and selected Mattias Samuelsson, D, 6-foot-4, 217 pounds (USNTDP): Big, strong, and safe defenceman. Son of former NHLer Kjell Samuelsson who was projected as a late first round pick in the 2o18 Draft.HFboards immediately crashed after the announced pick, and will be down for a minimum of 2 weeks until they can afford new servers.

He was rumored to go at #9, ISS had him going top 10. Taking someone top 5 instead of top 10 isn't going off the board imo, it's just taking them earlier then expected.

Could not believe Habs drafted a goalie at 5 even then. Now we see how that turns out.

A lot of people had Price a lot higher then #19. But you’re right about the top 10. People wouldn’t have been surprised if he went there but it wasn’t expected. What threw people off was us picking him up when we were so deep in goalie depth. So much so that we could trade Garon for what was considered a low return and had signed Danis and had Halak who both looked like they could be goalies of the future at the time.
