It never fails someone is going to jump over us. I'm hoping it's Vancouver. I don't want NYR, Chicago, NYI or Edmonton to get into the top 3.

I can live with NYR jumping us because they've never tanked before this year. Chicago (Kane & Toews), Edmonton (McDavid, RNH & Draisatl) & NYI (Tavares) have all had #1 overall picks.

It would be especially cruel if Chicago won as they're just coming off a dynasty.

This is going to be a tough lottery because I know a team I don't want top 3 will get top 3. There's too many of them.
Yeah but what if we do the jumping :propeller

I'm a Timmins supporter, but he better not be going for size (De la Rose), a goalie (Fucale), or a shootout specialist (Colberg).

Go for real talent without regard for position, size, etc..
My guess is we draft ZERO goalies this draft......that second round is so crucial to this teams future success.....4 second round picks, especially a 35 and 38th pick has the potential for something really special, we cannot screw this one up

That second round is more important to me than who we specifically pick in the first. I think we'll get a very good player regardless of who we pick in the first but 1 player doesn't make a team or a great prospect pool. Those seconds are the future of this team imo. They make or break how good our future looks.

Watch Bervevin pick Tkachuk simply because of the name, like he probably did with Benn and Shaw. I mean if one is good the other one must be as well, and when you see a name like Tkachuk you don't think twice, because he has hockey in his genes, you can tell by his name.

Wouldn't be surprised if Bergevin announced Monday that a change and fresh ideas were needed, and that a family of Mormons practicing hockey genealogy will be taking over as directors of amateur scouting.

If you haven't been checking the odds, we are more likely to pick 5 or 6 (60% chance) then top 4 (30%) so if you go into this lottery expecting that we land the 5th or 6th pick, you won't be disappointed if we land where we the odds told us we would land but you'll be thrilled if we land top 4.

Don't expect more than 1 or 2 top six forwards/top 4 dmen. 2 top six forwards/top 4 dmen would be a way-above-the-norm haul for 4 second round picks. 1 would be about average.

Also, nailing that first is extremely crucial. Given Timmins, I expect it to happen, but it's not something to be taken for granted. Look at all the past top 7 busts.

2007: Benoit Pouliot, Gibert Brule, Jack Skille, Devin Setoguchi, Brian Lee, were all taken before Anze Kopitar

2006: Erik Johnson, Jordan Staal were taken before Toews, Nicklas Backstrom, and Kessel,

Etc., etc....

Kopitar, Backstrom, Toews, and Kessel were franchise changing players, where as many of the players taken before them were either merely quality top six/top 4, but not elite, or even busts.

I blame Detroit. Shows how far that franchise has fallen. They couldn't win 2 freaking games against the Habs? Give me a break.

Where's the pride?

Timmins does tend to go off the board at times............god help us.
Not when he's drafted top 15 though... Sergachev and Galchenyuk were pretty good picks. Most here probably said he would pick McLeod in 2016.

McDonagh was also a nice pick back in 07.

I trust Timmins to make a good choice here. He won't reach for Veleno or Kupari when there is so much talent available in the top 10 and a clear lack of an elite forward or D prospect in the organization.
Wahlstrom seems the most Timmons pick and he seems to be popular on this board.
I'm really, really hoping for Wahlstrom but Dobson seems like the most Timmins pick.

Once the lottery is completed I think we should target the Islanders first round pick with Pacioretty (assuming they don't move into the top 3). They may feel that by adding someone like Pacioretty they can convince Tavares to re-sign. If successful we can use this pick and some of our seconds to move up a few spots.

Would be nice to get Dahlin. Gives Weber a partner that may very well increase his shelf life.
