Hopefully that means an extension for Duchene/Stone cause not getting a thing for either of them would be another massive fail for this organization.

I prefer the Methot from 2-3 years ago over any version of Ceci.

Not too sure about the current version of Methot, though... His age and play style seem to be catching up to him. He's just a depth guy at this point, it seems.
I agree with your assessment, I'll still take him over Ceci.

Yes, we dont have a decent shut down dman, seems like Englund is close to bust level

But Methot isn't that anymore. He's old and breaking down. He has a history of back problems. He only played 36 games last year. 33yrs old is pretty old for a one dimensional defensive defenseman.

But but but I read somewhere else today that 33 is still young?

It never should have come to losing a player of Methot's caliber for nothing. That situation was mishandled imo.

Once we knew it was coming to that point though, value wise, of course you protect Ceci over Methot. As far as play on the ice goes, of course Methot was better than Ceci, and probably still is when healthy, but based on age, injury history and all that, Ceci had more value.

If he gets close to Ryans level id say thats an incredible success based on where he is right now.

Yeah, what a shame it would be if Brown ends up 455th in NHL All-Time Points Leaders or 44th among active players (still going)

Spezza was a 15 year old Junior exception.

Aren’t we setting the bar a bit high?

What's funny is that it would be a shame if Brown ends up like Ryan rather than Spezza (who declined quite young as well), but then "lethargic play" and "injuries" are mentioned, like if Spezza has never been guilty or victim of that lol

And if we look at the 2 less productive Ryan seasons and compare them with Spezza's

Spezza : 0.52 PPG (CH : 7.5)
Ryan : 0.47 PPG (CH 7.25)

84% of Ryan points came at ES, 60% for Spezza. Also, Spezza has been sheltered defensively most of his career.

Really, sometimes you just end up scratching your head or facepalming. It's good to alternate to not develop any problem.

Once it was transparent we were leaving Methot unprotected he should have been traded, our unprotected list after him was pretty crap.
Ya that was mishandled from the get go. To lose a player of that much importance to our team was inexcusable. I suspect they were a lot more okay with it than fans because they got to shed his salary and saw that as a positive even though it left a gaping hole they didn't attempt to fill.
