My immediate thought was, "She owns that character, any attempt to recast this is doomed".

But since she's actually coming back to the role, it doesn't sound like AS bad of an idea.

No, he had a heart attack and lived.

No,he died. The finale revealed that the whole lottery thing never happened and was her writing a book.

I mean other than how to deal with the finale nonsense it was be awesome to see an 8 part series about them years down the road. But,cause of that, I have no idea what it would be about.

Only saw an episode or 2 and never cared for it. The Norm Macdonald name drop alone would get me interested in anything though. Was he a writer on the show before?

I'm actually a little curious, as the question to where this blue collar, small town rust belt family is today is one of the driving forces of US politics.

I didn't watch the show up until the end, but from what I'm aware of, that last season was a write off. They may have to retcon that out.

You still want this to be a comedy, but, I can see a real artistic purpose to bringing these characters back.

Yes.

e: I don't know if he's actually going to write. He was just interested in doing it.

I wouldn't bother retconning. Just ignore the last season. "Dan faked his death" would make this instantly stupid.

Last season was horrendous ,, Should have ended with them winning lotto

Would have been nice conclusion,, How they actually ended it was trainwreck

Don't have much hope of this being any good. I will remember the golden age of show (Even the seasons right before the final one were good)

Show went downhill right after they had Dan suffer heart attack

Its a shame Glenn Quinn died though ,, Cant truly have a reunited cast without Mark

That was such a good show back in the day. A real TV show with real characters that didn't hold anything back. That said it jumped the shark in the final season and shouldn't be brought back.

Thing that made Roseanne great was that if you lived in Midwest a lot of the issues on show (Financial struggles , Working family , etc) were so realistic and it was truly the most accurate portrayal of working class family on TV

It was hard to relate to shows like Cosby Show , Growing Pains and Family Ties as those were essentially well off families living in well off area's without a lot of the issues people really experienced here in Midwest

First thing I thought of also is how the hell do you have Goodman back since he died. Will be interesting to see how they do this.

This was a show that I absolutely hated when it first came on but I watch the reruns and I enjoy it mostly.

Boy: "Mommy, sister called me a pre-vert!"

Roseanne: "No, dear, you're not a prevert. You're a per-vert."

Boy: "Ohhhh..."

I saw a lot of the show and don't really remember anything specific in it except for that exchange, which cracked me and my brother up.

It wasn't one of my favorite shows, but I enjoyed it more than Married With Children, the other show about a dysfunctional family. Married With Children was rather absurd and relied on stereotypes, whereas Roseanne was more relatable to the average family.

I also agree that it's not as bad to bring back shows if the original cast is in it. This is an obvious response to Fuller House, which many people don't seem to mind and which has gotten positive reviews. The thing about reboots is that they tend to be for newer generations, but bringing back old casts for a short-lived reunion is more for the nostalgia of the older generation, which is OK if it's done right.

I'm sure you can just write off that last season with a joke to start the show, something like Roseanne saying Dan, I had that dream again where I wrote a book and you were dead, and the show moves on.

Hope Laurie Metcalf is back as well.

Laurie Metcalf is such an underrated actress. Saw her in Misery on Broadway last year and she was absolutely amazing.

I still love the show through about season 6 then it went downhill. I wonder what they will do with Mark more than Dan. Like others have said they can just say the last season was a dream. Estelle Parsons is still alive right? That would be awesome to see her on a reboot.

I agree, I think this has potential to be something different to your run-of-the-mill sitcom. It was always prepared to do a more realistic down-to-earth portrayal of the average working class family. And it was never afraid to challenge norms and take up topics before they became a PC cause-de-jour (openly gay main character, domestic violence etc)

I think what's interesting is that Roseanne is a big Trump supporter, and her TV family are exactly the kind of people who helped him win the likes of Michigan and Ohio. Throw in some blazing political rows with Darlene and Jackie over the Thanksgiving dinner, and I imagine you have a scene that many American households can relate to.

This doesen't need a reboot. I loved the show and even though the original cast is going to be back, I feel this is going to end up in the cancellation bin sooner rather than later.
