I know everyone likes to dunk on Kerfoot but are you saying a 4th was more important to this team going into the playoffs than forward depth?

It's absurd that this is even getting talked about.

Or we could have retained then gotten rid of kerfoot and picked up someone who wasn't trash?

The point is that the dude burned assets like they were going out of style he obviously wasn't being handcuffed by the board

The premise of this rumor is questionable when the GM trades a 1st for Nick Foligno. This is 100% damage control by Dubas and his friends in the media.

Let’s just use the potential Pittsburgh and Ottawa jobs as a measuring stick of GM autonomy.

Hextall was banned from trading Malkin and Letang to retool around Crosby. Good luck imposing your vision in Pittsburgh or expecting less interference from the Fenway Group.

Ottawa’s owner Eugene Melnyk mandated a rebuild which forced guys like Stone, Karlsson and friends out of town in the middle of their competitive years. Good luck with the new ownership group.

Leafs Home Board
What this thread tells us is that President Shanahan did not trust his own greenhorn GM Dubas with his inexperience to leave him alone and unchecked.

He almost had to act as his parental guidance and take a hands on approach and put himself up as the guardrails between GM and MLSE BOD to prevent really bad mistakes in trades and signings from occurring, by weighing in and putting his thumb on the scale, and at times even telling Kyle "NO" not going to happen on my watch.

The power play and power struggle we also heard about between them that resulted in Dubas dismissal, was all about Kyle wanting his own training wheels removed now, and get more autonomy and authority to make his own decisions, and sell them to the MLSE BOD directly himself.

It's going to be so nice once we have a real and experienced GM sitting in the Chair again, and then Shanny can go back to doing his President's stuff and Leafs organization goes back to operating as any normal one would expect the chain of command and authority with the position to occur.

Not to mention that and the Mcann decision both being on camera Shanny was just there to talk with him about it in both cases then let him call the shot

Luckily for the sens Melnyk is gone. The job is also not open and Dorion has done pretty well which makes it extra weird but whatever

The more hilarious thing then that is Melnyk hiring Pierre McGuire and letting him do shit like the hamonic trade

Both bad examples. Its a clear direction for the GM. Keep the 3 vets; Rebuild.

So was getting the contract retained for a 4th a waste or not because now you’ve said both.

It was a waste to do it for Kerfoot yes if we actually had a structured plan to use that space to get someone that would have helped us more then he did no.

In any case it's a pretty good example of Dubas not being hand cuffed

You don't get to trade away that many picks at once if you're handcuffed

I don't think it was even that bad of a thing that we went for it but you don't do all the moves we did if the board and Shanny are second guessing every decision

We have come to be one of the worst ruled and most controlled fan bases in the world.

Dominated by a small group of men. A sinister clique of individuals. Who hold themselves above accountability.

Refusing to accept responsibility for their actions.

No draft picks.
No salary cap space.
No blue chip prospects.

One series win in nine years.

How can this be defended? It can't. I believe in accountability.

And a GM that apparently didn't even want the job anymore is hardly holding anyone accountable for this failed hockey team.

Now that the heads have started to roll, it should include the ones that floated their way to the top. That means Shanahan. It doesn't matter who you replace Shanahan with either.

He did nothing the entire time he's been here.

Shanahan took a hands off approach. Watching while Dubas botched the entire rebuild. You could replace him with a bag of hair and still get the same results.

At least the bag of hair could be held accountable.

Probably tried to do some dumb stuff and shanny saved us.

They'll ask me to prove it, but then not provide any proof themselves that the moves that shanny blocked were genius cup winning moves.

Leafs need to hang on to the Dubas leftovers for a year so they dont start leaking and trashing Shanny the second after they're fired. In a year no one will care.
