My first attempt:

#7 Marco Rossi, C
#51 Kasper Simontaival, RW
#63 Luke Tuch, LW
#100 Dmitri Ovchinnikov, LW
#193 Pavel Tyutnev, C
#210 Yegor Chinakhov, RW
my first attempt:
7. Lucas Raymond
38: Jake Neighbors
100: Colby Ambrosio
131. Gunnarwolfe Fontaine
193: Declan McDonnell
210: Matteo Costantini

I know it’s all forwards lol but I’m biased towards Ambrosio, Declan and Matteo lol

I would actually be thrilled with Raymond and Neighbours with those picks. I just think Neighbours fills such a huge need for this organization

Yeah I usually trade back when I win a lottery pick with the intention of rossi. Ive even done like 1 for 3,+++ then 3 for 5-7 ++, so we're picking where we would now with some extra 1sts and 2nds. 7 for 11 and 23 isn't something I've tried. Risky but could get 2 solid guys.

Personally I think marat is a little overhyped now. I think he does look solid, 1st round isn't necessarily a reach but idk about top 15.

I've been playing around a lot with this a lot lately.

I have had a ton of lottery luck today and I've been very active with trading back and adding picks.

So I tried this. Got the first pick, did a deal. My results (traded with OTT):

4.) Marco Rossi, C
21.) Jan Mysak, C/W
33.) William Wallinder, LD
38.) Lukas Reichel, C/W
49.) Vasili Ponomaryov, C
100.) Jack Finley, C
131.) Ryder Rolston, RW
193.) Mason Langenbrunner, RD
210.) Winter Wallace, C

A 2nd time. Got the 2nd pick, traded with DET:

4.) Marco Rossi, C
32.) Jacob Perrault, C
51.) Helge Grans, RD
58.) Daniel Torgersson, W
63.) Ozzy Wiesblatt, RW
65.) Anton Johannesson, LD
100.) Oliver Suni, RW
131.) Kasper Puutio, RD
193.) Jan Bednar, G
210.) Winter Wallace, C

This is what happens when you win the #1 OA pick and start trading down:

Buffalo Sabres
(3) Quinton Byfield, C
(23) Anton Lundell, C
(38) Mavrik Bourque, C
(42) Tyson Foerster, C
(100) Daemon Hunt, LD
(131) Colby Ambrosio, C
(193) Blake Biondi, C
(210) Adam Raska, RW

Oh, and I had the randomness factor cranked up.

Eichel, byfield, cozens, lundell would be a greater center spine.

Even if none of them but eichel reach their true potential I think their floors are probably 2c, 3c, 4c, so even at worst they're filling their roles

I know Lundell is my guy, but if Botterill went off the board and picked Khusnutdinov at 7/8.

I think with the way Botterill has been drafting Lundell or Byfield are the most likely center options with Stutzle being the third choice. Then your Holtz or Raymond choice on the wing.

If he took Lundell or Byfield ahead of Stutzle...Jesus Christ man. Giving me heart palpitations.

There can be an argument for Stutzle over Byfield but thats far from off-the-board.

I also think people put too much stock in Boterill's (or the scouts') type of player. While they might prefer players of a certain style, or from certain leagues those aren't the only guys they take.

The low ceiling with size stereotype, for example, does not apply to mitts. The anti CHL does not apply to Cozens. Looking for speed does not apply to Samuelsson.

I think they definitely have preferences, but at the end of the day they aren't locking themselves into one "type" of player

Off the board, no. But I’ve been not the biggest Byfield fan for a while here. Stutzle to me is a hands down better prospect. If Byfield is the Sabres pick at 7, then great. But if Buffalo is in a position to select between the pair, I would not be pleased.

I'm wouldnt consider myself the biggest byfield fan either, but your reaction at the prospect of taking him over stutzle seems unwarranted. Its not like theyd be making a huge gaffe that everyone in hockey knew immediately.

and byfield will obviously not be the 7th pick

I just see Taylor Pyatt or Chris Gratton all over again. He has those Malkin moments, but then I see him play a perimeter game with much more consistency than anything that wows me.

Stützle is more like Claude Giroux, or poor man’s Eichel. Fast, excellent playmaker, underutilized but superb shot, shifty with the puck.

I’m glad Byfield won’t be the 7th pick.

I'm not disagreeing with your evaluation of him, more saying that it wouldnt be an absurd move to take him of stutzle. While at this point, most people would consider Lundell over stutzle to be absurd

I agree broadly-speaking, but to me it would be a head-shakingly bad decision.

If the Sabres win 1OA there is no way they better be thinking of trading down.

Take Lafreniere, the sure thing and be happy instead of trading down for more magic beans.
