Today's draft, opposite of yesterday, no randomness full team needs picks. Buffalo dropped to 9th.

9 - Yaroslav Askarov - G
38 - Jacob Perrault - C
100 - Jack Finley - C
131 - Connor McClennon - RW
193 - Winter Wallace - C
208 - Zach Uens - LD

I wanted to see what kind of draft I could have after taking Askarov that high. Gotta say, I don't hate it. I'm biased towards Finley, and McClennon is a good friend of his and I see him flying under the radar due to his size.

Draft 2, back to full random no team needs considered.

10 - Marco Rossi - C
38 - Martin Chrmoiak - LW
100 - Tyler Kleven - LD
131 - Yevgeni Oksentyuk - RW/LW
193 - Trevor Kuntar - C
208 - Jakub Malek - G

Byfield's physical tools are impressive, it's the game between the ears that doesn't impress me. Not to mention, as a team, we are not built, nor are building to be a team that will wear opponents out (which falls on the GM's lap). It's going in the direction of "out skilling" the other team. Having 1 guy (assuming Byfield is who you are focusing here for that "wearing out") isn't going to cut it. Cozens isn't a power forward to wear people down in anyway.

Watching Rossi more and more, I've liked his game and I believe his consistent dynamic play is something we are lacking on our roster. If I'm adding a top 6 talent in the draft, I want my guy to be as skilled and dynamic as possible. We need guys that can take over games at both ends of the ice, and Rossi, in footage I've seen, has done a better and more consistent job than most guys in the draft. To me, he's this draft's Mitch Marner, and IMO we NEED that type of player so bad.
While it’s not worth our time to get our hopes up on either, I think QB’s worlds stats are interfering with peoples opinions on the overall body of work. He played at 17 and already has a pro NHLers body. He’s one if youngest players in the draft and Rossi is one of the oldest. There’s not much of a difference but a difference nonetheless. I see a future Tom Wilson with much more skill in QB and that’s hard to pass up if you have the chance to add.

Byfield for me AINEC. Byfield and Cozens turn our top 6 into a large, fast power element that will wear opponents out. I remember and weep about Phillys Legion of Doom with Lindros and Leclair

Yeah, Cozens and Byfield behind Eichel would be a dream. That's a center spine that's huge, strong, and fast as hell.

@Asymmetric Solution since we're talking about the prospects, I figured to bring the conversation here.

Re: Byfield vs Rossi - For me it's just a case of personal preference. I get the appeal of QB. Shoot, I like him as well and he was in my top 3 guys, but while it's great to see ceiling of QB, and the potential of that, Based on where we are as a franchise, I'm more interested in the guy that has the higher floor. I fully believe Rossi, while he doesn't have the higher potential ceiling, with his game, I feel he has the higher floor and I feel he's the safest player to bet on having a productive career. Unfortunately, we need guys that are close to guarantees to be successful. I'm more confident in Rossi being that than Byfield.

Yeah im not even thinking lottery. Also while I just want to win, itd be nice to do it without having to pick top 2 all the time. Between eichel, reinhart, and dahlin we should be set on the top picks.

My most recent put Buffalo at 3. I traded with Ott for 5+33+49.

Stutzle has so much potential, but Rossi and and additional two 2nds isnt bad. If we have 3, we have to hit on at least one right? Looking at you 2013...

Perreault falling to 38 is the dream.

He has his flaws, but is still a top-15 talent in this class.

If I was going to do a personal top 10, I think it'd look like this right now:

1.) Lafreinere
2.) Byfield
3.) Stutzle
4.) Rossi
5.) Raymond
6.) Holtz
7.) Lundell
8.) Perfetti
9.) Drysdale
10.) ???????

I full well acknowledge that I have Drysdale low....but I don't want to see us taking a defensemen unless all of the other 8 forwards on my list are gone.

And I have no idea at all who to put at 10 right now. Sanderson maybe. Quinn maybe. Zary maybe. No clue.

I might be in the minority here but I have Stutzle at #2. Guy is so nifty he reminds me of a center version of Dahlin.

I had the same thought watching some of his highlights. They were Dahlin-esque. That said, right now he might lack some other things that make Dahlin so great like 2-way play and ability under pressure during 5v5 transitions, so even though there we're glimpses of it I dont know if I have him as a lock at 2, but I think there is a real chance he ends up better than Byfield.

Need turned up to about 80%. Simmed the lottery, didn't make any trades.

(7) Alexander Holtz, RW/LW
(38) Lukas Reichel, LW/C
(100) Dmitri Ovchinnikov, LW
(131) Alex Laferriere, RW
(193) Mason Langenbrunner, RD
(210) Bryan Thomson, G

Second one, same settings, no trades.

Buffalo Sabres
(3) Tim Stutzle, C
(38) Ryan O'Rourke, LD
(100) Nico Daws, G
(131) Alex Laferriere, RW
(193) Gage Goncalves, C
(210) Bogdan Trineyev, RW

I'd be happy with that kind of potential in the middle of the draft

38.) Mavrik Bourque, C
100.) Carson Bantle, LW
131.) William Dufour, RW
193.) Jake Boltmann, LD

For the fun of it, cranked both randomness and team needs all the way up:

9.) Marco Rossi, C
38.) Jacob Perrault, C
100.) Lukas Reichel, C/LW (LOLWUT)
131.) Brandon Coe, RW

I did another where I put team need and randomness both to about 90%. Stutzle went 1st, Rossi 2nd, Lafreniere 3rd. Got to 7 and Drysdale was the guy left. Not ideal.

Should we do a team board poll, where we get an aggregate ranking of the top 10 leading into the draft? Might be fun to reference come draft day.

I think for the most part they'll all look like

1. Lafreniere
2/3 Byfield / Stutzle
4. Drysdale
5/6/7 Raymond/Rossi/Perfetti
8 Holtz
9 Lundell
10/11/12 Quinn/Sanderson/Zary

Now mine is:
1. Lafreniere
2. Byfield
3. Drysdale
4. Rossi
5. Stutzle
6. Raymond
7. Quinn
8. Holtz
9. Perfetti
10. Lundell

All we can hope for now is the league bribed us to accept 7th out w a favorable Pittsburghy Oilered lotto..

Unfortunately I can’t believe they rig a lottery that would send McDavid to Edmonton. They can rig a system that makes sure Chicago and Montreal get into the playoffs that we won’t call playoffs and if they fail still get to be in the lottery though. That they’re all about.

Why are so many people ranking Lundell in their top 10? Lundell does not have the same ceiling as a lot of these players who are in this 10 - 20 range.
